Mohale Dam

Mohale Dam, Maseru: Address, Phone Number, Mohale Dam Reviews: 4/5

About
Maseru is an ideal base from which to explore the western region of Lesotho with its magnificent scenery, rich history, culture and crafts. A made-made phenomenon in this area is the Mohale Dam, which was completed in 2003, situated 91km from Maseru. It is southwest of Katse Dam and almost doubles the water supply to South Africa through an inter-connecting tunnel into the Katse reservoir.

Unique engineering in Africa

The dam is one of the three dams in Lesotho. Impressive! The dam can be visited by just walking around or take a trip on one of the boats. Go to the information center for clarity. The hotel and lodge are OK, but still acceptable standards. You have not been to Lesotho without visiting this dam.

There is a nice place to look out over this dam, which supplies Maseru with all its water. Not a particularly impressive dam, but nice to see in this underdeveloped country.

A warm meal in cold weather
Jun 2019
I went to a Cannabis growing area in Marakabei up in the mountains of Lesotho on a cold June day. Just before lunch I toured Mohale them and then went for lunch at Mohale Lodge. I received a warm welcome, and was served professionally. The warm meal instantly warmed me up. It is a great place to be, its nice and quiet, you eat while listening to the birds sing outside.

The views are stunning

The dam views are very nice, but the boat was not functional. To eneter you pay R20 and there is no drinking water on site. The road to the Dam is rather dangerous due to falling mountain rocks

This place is awesome. I love the view. If you have a thing for mountains and heights. You will get the best views here. Be weary of those curves though, take energy drink if you feel nausea. Take lots of pics. The food is also so good!!

A diamond in the rough

This was an awesome afternoon spent after staying at the lodge! For 30 Rand per person, our group went to the dam information center had a short but informative briefing on the history and construction of the dam and then we went to the dam itself! It was absolutely gorgeous and a very interesting tour. The tour guide was exceptionally knowledgeable. Then we drove 10 km from the dam where we had a picnic lunch down by the water.

Worth the drive, the place is heavenly beautiful. Be prepared for a long drive though. As you drive through you pass through curvy road with breathtaking views. I have never seen so many beautiful mountains in one place.

This is a very lovely hotel and the self catering units are well equipped and luxury. The staff and management are very friendly and helpful. The food was very delicious and at budget prices.
