About
As the first company to set a balloon aloft over the Serengeti, we have set the bar high for an exceptional adventure, delivered with safety at the forefront of our minds, and with our passenger's experience as a priority. From the outset, we've established ourselves as partners in conservation in the Parks in which we operate and we take an active role in ensuring ballooning standards are rigorously maintained. We've had to learn the vagaries of the weather from first-hand experience and as such, there are no more experienced pilots than those that fly the green and gold of Serengeti Balloon Safaris. We are adventurers at heart, with a penchant for detail and quality, and with each balloon that flies we know we're doing something extraordinarily well.

Our group of 46 travelers from Fun Happenings Travel and Adventure traveled to Tanzania from the USA. A large number of the group took the balloon excursion over the Serengeti with this awesome professional company. It was my first experience in a hot air balloon and the quickly made me feel relaxed and safe in their professional care. They explained everything we would experience from how we would load, lift off, travel, steer, the landing etc. The ride was smooth and beautiful. Upon landing they greeted us with a champagne toast, welcome, smiles, bathrooms, clean water to wash our hands, certificates to document the experience and a complete homemade breakfast elegantly set on the Serengeti. I would highly recommend this experience and our pilot for this once in a lifetime experience.

We took a SBS balloon flight on February 22, 2024. Our pilot was Mohamed and the experience was exhilarating! A fantastic opportunity to see the vastness of the beautiful Serengeti. The SBS Staff was wonderful, efficient and very professional. Our driver, Adam was outstanding and despite the early pick-up and drive to our sunrise flight, we were always in safe and competent hands. Mohamed is a fantastic pilot and SBS representative. He guided us during the flight, spotted animals and I felt very safe. The catered breakfast afterwards was a delight! Such charming details to make this experience a true memory. I only wish I had brought more cash for tips.

What a majestic adventure!!! to peacefully soar above such spectacular scenery of wildlife and landscapes, it was a breathtaking experience. As a first timer at this, I felt so safe, amazed and thrilled. Captain Frank did a superb job in guiding, flying and a perfect landing. After a little bubbly, we sat down to the most wonderful breakfast and conversation. Oh, and thanks for "the loo with a view." A perfect beginning with a perfect ending and pure joy in-between..

Absolutely beautiful! Earllllly morning pick up to enjoy the sunrise. Significant safety briefings and precautions. An hour trip with some low flights over animals. Delicious breakfast after with special interactions and stories. Expensive but definitely worth the money!!

After paying in full a non-refundable $1497 USD for three of us, they ask me to pay another $10 to cover their bank charges.
Night before scheduled ride with Serengeti Balloon Safaris, their driver contacted us to say that instead df picking us up as scheduled at 6:00 AM, he would be there at 4:30 because he had to drive around to some other lodges and camps to pick up other passengers.
After riding around for two hours in the dark in the back of their bus without breakfast, we arrived at the launch site, watched three balloons leave with other clients, then had to hang around until 8:30 before we were finally told that there was no,pilot for our balloon, so our trip was cancelled. Even then the manager did not give the drivers permission to return us to our lodges.
It was an unnecessarily frustrating experience, and the manager responded to polite complaints with an abusive tirade.

We were really looking forward to the much advertised balloon safari and several friends had recommended it enthusiastically. A sunrise ballon ride meant a 430am wakeup. The landcrusier arrived from the balloon company on time.

Everything about the balloon experience was top notch, professional and first class, as it should be given the price $500/per person including the english breakfast.
The problem is that the 2 key items I was looking for on sunrise ballon safari are the two items that the operator cannot control, and in my case I was sorely disappointed. On our morning the sunrise was very unspectacular, and there were basically no animals. This balloon safari has a set starting location - set by Sergernegati national park - and from there it basically goes the direction of the wind with only a small amount of control. So if there are no animals in that direction, as is often the case, then you don't see anything. Simple as that. As anyone who goes on safari knows you must go to the animals they are free to come and go as you please. Balooning the path is basically chosen by prevailing winds.

We did see a few wildebeest from a distance, and a lion but that was it, and there are no second chances or pausing.

This may sound obvious to some of you, however I simply did not put these simple facts together and the sales staff did not do a good job of explaining these things when questioned.

So if you want to go ballooning this is great, but overpriced when compared to a similar balling experience in the US or europe. The people are professional. The equipment is well maintained, the breakfast is OK, if you are really lucky then you will see a nice sunrise and if you are even luckier maybe there will be animals along your path. My vote is go ballooning somewhere else in the world where it is cheaper and spend your money on another game drive or an extra day in the serengeti instead.

We had decided to take the Balloon Safari after much deliberation. With the pre dawn drive to the launch area which was about an hour from our lodge (Sopa) the excitement was building up. We were properly briefed and allocated cubicles where we had to crawl in once the balloon was partially inflated. We had a corner to ourselves as suggested by some reviews here and it helped. We were soon up in the air just as the sun rose. It was a brilliant day, very clear skies, excellent visibility. We passed a hippo pool with about 40 hippos in it. There were lions looking up at us with passing curiosity as well as boredom :) Passed herds of zebra and wild beast. 45 minutes in the air, it was time to land in the bush. The landing was smooth which was followed by champagne and sumptuous english breakfast. So if everything went along so well, why am I complaining? As some others have mentioned, it is the cost! Is it truly worth US$ 499. I frankly don't think so. Balloon Safaris are increasingly becoming popular around the world as in India, where the cost for one hour is no more than US $ 200.

Let me start with the positive. The breakfast was excellent. When the balloon went up to about 1,000 ft, you got a great view of the plains - of course, you got just as good a view if you climbed the hill at the entrance to the national park for free.
When the balloon is close to the ground, you can't see any animals, when it's higher up, you can barely see them with binoculars, and you're moving to fast to see them well. The worst part is that the balloon traveled the same path that our land safari took later that morning, when we saw ten times the number of animals.
If you want to see animals, stay with the land safari; if you want to go on a balloon ride and see something you can't see from the ground, go on a balloon ride in Cappadocia. You'll see twice as much for less than half the cost.
