The Mouassine museum is in a house of 17-18th century. In the heart of the museum, the douiria, Xavier Salmon, curator of heritage at the Louvre named it "The beautiful forgotten of Marrakech", shows a true symphony of colors. In this museum that we wish to show through thematic exhibitions the arts that evoke Morocco. Decorative arts, everyday arts, music, image, a shared country. The Mouassine Museum organises concerts of traditional Medina music every Monday and Friday in the stunning ambience of the Mouassine douiria (apartment).

By removing wall plaster, the restorers have revealed beautiful original features of this old riad. Other restoration work to the woodwork etc. has added to the charm of the building which was the birthplace of the Moroccan artist Abdelhay Mellakh. There is now an extensive...More

If you can arrange to be at the museum on a Monday evening they give a short concert of Berber music which is informative and great fun. The owner also gives a short talk on the architecture and symbols of the house which makes it...More

We didn't really enjoy our visit. It was lacking in engagement and storytelling. The roof terrace was nice but Marrakech is full of nice terraces. Not a must in our opinion.

This small museum was the highlight of my stay in Marrakesh. The staff is very kind and helpful. The Museum itself is a mixture between a collection of paintings from a local artist and beautiful Maroccan architecture. The entrance fee is 30DHM and for 20DHM...More

Ok if you have time to fill. Interesting story of an artist who lived there as a child. Difficult to find with lack of signage and locals trying to send us in different directions.

If you are interested in the Moroccan artist, whose birthplace this was, then it is for you. Otherwise, there is nothing here that is not available elsewhere (Secret Garden is a much more worthwhile visit nearby). The decor and architecture are not of course comparable...More
