Who hasn’t heard of the famous tanneries in Fes? We were led up at least 6 flights of stairs, which, by the way, was all tiled and beautiful, from a leather goods store, to a terrace overlooking the vats of the tannery. Before we entered...More

If you want leather this is the area to head to. Lots of shops. View the dyeing vats from the balcony at the top. My wife did not like the smell.

Best place to view the tanneries is from the balconies of the big leather shops. Expect to receive a little education of the dying process and big sales pitch tied into one. It is a one of a kind experience to see such a sight...More

It worth to visit this place,it is a puzzle of labyrinths, so it is certainly recommended to have either a GPS or a tour guide so you will not walk in a circle, the tour guide will take you to visit several places in this...More

Forget the smells, the culture around this is very interesting. For the best views, check the stores around the area, they always have a terrace that overlooks the tanneries which offers the best views and ideal pictures. You dont have to pay anything to go...More

We stopped by and got a birds eye view of the tannery and enjoyed it immensely. Many people seemed to have a hard time with the smells but I didn't find it that bad. I guess growing up on a farm helped...lol After seeing and...More

The tanneries are a must see in Fes because you get to witness all of the drying and dying done by hand like they have been doing for hundreds of years. There are a few vantage points but it involves going through a leather store...More

This is a remarkable place. To see men working in baths of different colors is both astonishing and beautiful. The day I went they were dying the skins in pale milky blue basins of various hues. I could have stayed there for hours marveling over...More

I had heard so much about the tanneries but I guess you have to go early to see the vats full and people working. It was still worth going to see and learn about the process but it's mostly about shopping afterwards which we were...More

Interesting experience and certainly worth a look although it is all about the finished product! It is a messy, smelly process so don't get too close. Also appreciate that once you have a quick look it time to move on - not a half-day activity!
