We moved here from a somewhat smaller town that had a great pool. I was so relieved to see this was the center that Ames has available. I have three boys grades 4-7. We get a family pass and go in the evenings 2-4 times a week on average. I'm very impressed with their lifeguards, the staff is friendly. Even when it's busy it doesn't feel crowded, I can always find a chair to sit and relax while the kids play. The slides are a lot of fun and I love that we have a lazy river.

The Furman Aquatic Center is fun for kids and adults. The lazy river is a fun time to just sit in the center's inflatables and relax in the slow moving current. They also have some great water slides and a wide selection of water depths to chose. There are many classes to chose from for both kids and adults. The food selection at the concession window is very good.

When you go to most pools, you typically don't expect to find much to eat. Maybe a can of soda or a candy bar, but nothing healthy. So, you stick your favorite energy bar in your bag and a bottle of water, resign yourself to having overly-sugared kids, and assume that's that. But when you swim at Furman Aquatic Center, you - and your vegetarian kids - are able to actually get something semi-healthy to chase away the tummy rumbles. Choose from cheese pizza (frequently sold out, and generally not super hot; $3 a slice most days, $2 when it's on special), veggie hot dogs ($2.50 if I recall correctly), a bag of mini carrots, a bag of apple slides, granola bars, and pretzels (with or without nacho cheese - and you should definitely spring for the cheese). Plus there are other less healthy options, from ice cream to candy.

Sure, you're not going to get a gourmet meal at Furman. But you'll have an awesome time swimming there (it's an incredible facility), and when you decide it's time for a break there will likely be a little treat just waiting for you. -1 star because the food isn't very hot, but it's still way better than you'll get at a lot of recreational facilities.

I always count down the days when Furman Aquatic Center will be opening! From Memorial Day to Labor Day, you will often find me there getting great exercise. I enjoy using the Lazy River from 11-1 most days-it gives me a great work-out! One can either walk "with the current" or "against the current"-either way provides a great work-out! Another aspect that I enjoy about Furman is that also makes for a great social time in which I get to see (& work out) w/ fellow aquatic center people of all ages. I also like to use the pool as well. Finally, Furman Aquatic Center has a friendly & helpful staff-a great place to spend the summer! I've been going there for 6-7 years-I'm looking forward to being back again this year!

I visit Furman Aquatic Center almost daily in the summer. It is a beautiful place, surrounded by trees, nicely landscaped, and staffed by friendly people. It is always clean and welcoming. I love water walking in the lazy river and swimming laps. And the water slides are great fun!

Nice place for swimming and sunning fun but be sure you bring shoes as the pavement is extremely hot and there is no decking.
Children under 12 must take a swim test for diving boards and the deep end. Concessions are available and reasonably priced, but everything, including bottled water, must be consumed at the picnic area.
Plenty of shade if you want to get out of the sun.

We are season pass holders. My kids go almost every day during the summer. There's a splash area for young children and several slides for the older kids. Kids under 13 need to pass the "deep end swim test" in order to go into the deeper water. They then get a wrist band so the life guards know they're approved. Plenty of life guards on duty. Nice showers, lockers and bathrooms. My personal favorite is the lazy river.

The chairs can go fast on packed days, especially the ones in the shade, but you can also spread your towel out on the grass hill area if you'd like.
