Worth seeing
Jun 2021
Good cheap entertainment. And make no mistake, you go for the views and to climb around on the cliffs... you don’t go to see the blowhole which is nice but not too impressive. I don’t advise for those who are not very mobile. Definitely wear shoes, not flip flops or sandals.

There She Blows!
Jun 2021
Just a quick review....

The experience is great. It's something fun to stop and see.

The pro's to this stop is if you'd like to get close and personal, you can certainly walk all down to the blowhole itself.

If you have little ones, are on a time constraint or just feeling lazy, you can see it from the top of the hill, which is an easy, 50-100 yard walk down from the parking lot.

Blowhole
Jun 2021 • Couples
The hike to this blowhole is about 1 mile down and is very rocky and steep climbing down. You can watch from above if you aren’t up to the climb… and remember going down may be easier, climbing back up was tougher. The blowhole was not as active on the day we visited as others had shared with us, but it was still fun to experience and we did get a short video.

Definitely worth a stop
Jun 2021
Definitely worth your time to stop here. The day that we went it was incredibly windy. There were big waves crashing against the rocks which made all of the scenery very dramatic and beautiful. It also created lots of water bursts through the blowhole. Really pretty area with the blue sea, the black rocks and the green hillside.

We never made it to the blow hole
Jun 2021 • Family
I read quite a few reviews before we decided to go see the blow hole. Drive up was very curvy and slow. One 1-way bridge. Multiple sharp U turns and turns around cliffs that you can’t see on coming traffic. We both got a little motion sick on the trip. Once we arrived at the parking area we couldn’t figure out which path we should take. We saw ppl walking back up one path so we went that was and it was a dead end at a cliff. So we went back and took a different path. The paths are dirt and very hot and exposed. It’s cool once you are to the cliff side, but very hot during the hike. It is very much a hike and not for anyone who has any mobility issues. I was under the impression you could see the blow hole without hiking down into anything, but there was a very steep hike down to where I assume the blow hole was. I was uncertain how hard the hike out would be and didn’t want to chance it so we didn’t go down. I don’t have mobility issues, but I also don’t hike up steep slopes often. Overall this is a bust for us. If you are into hiking and exploring it might be great. Without signs it’s was hard to know where to go. Very pretty drive and a good test drive for the road to Hana if you are uncertain about driving it.

The drive there is scary so drive slow as some of the streets are only a one way and there’s so many curves. Overall the views are magnificent and it’s free..

Spectacular

This is something you MUST do while in Maui and is FREE!! The drive up included curvy roads so make sure someone who is an experienced driver is behind the wheel.
Go early because there are no lights on the roads and or near the blowhole. Make sure to wear gym shoes because you will need to hike down and then back up!
The experience is out of this world!
I would do it again!!!

Great Natural Wonder
Dec 2020
My family and I were on vacation in Maui (in the Lahaina area) and we decided to visit the Nakalele Blowhole. The drive there is a windy road that was fun to drive with a lot of great views along the way. If you are not an adventurous driver or a nervous driver you might want to let someone else take the wheel. When you arrive you are basically parking on the side of the road, walking on a relatively flat path then climbing/hiking down to the blowhole. I highly recommend that at minimum you wear sneakers and not flimsy shoes like flip-flops. There is no real path to hike down (or up). It's rocky and some sections are slippery. We had a 5 and 7 year in tow and our oldest got a little nervous on the way down. But once you get down there the view is spectacular and you just need to wait a few minutes for the blowhole to do its thing. The lava rock formations also make you feel like you are on another planet. There are a number of signs on the way down reminding you to keep a safe distance from the blowhole. Our girls enjoyed it so much that they wanted to go do it again. I think they had more fun climbing up and down than seeing the blowhole. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend it.

Quick stop along the West Maui route

Stopped here for thirty minutes or so to try and find the blowhole. Never actually did though but it was quite a remarkable rock formation. Don't be the person that gets too close and ends up getting sucked into it - happened recently, yet again.

Family friendly easy activity
Apr 2021
This is a drive up northwest Maui past Ka'anapali along curving roads with beautiful vistas. Good spots to pull over & take a few photos! There is plenty of parking at the spot to pull off for the blowhole & you don't have to hike down to it (actually, I wouldn't recommend it, it can be dangerous & people have been sucked in before. Plus it's a rather steep/rocky hike down to it). If you walk across a flat, grassy plain, there is a relatively flat rock overlook where you can get some good pictures (wear a mask -- it gets pretty crowded up there, which is why I gave it four stars. Many people were not masked). The blowhole is more active in the afternoon, so this is a good post-beach activity.
