The trail leading to the bay is downhill and a short hike in the shade of beautiful vegetation. The views are great from the trail and from the « beach » at the end of the trail. We just stayed on the public trail, which takes a...More

We were taking our friends sightseeing and found a nice spot to park our car. This place is usually hard to find parking. Got my knee brace on and trekked slowly downhill. Our first stop to the right was a nice bay area with a...More

This is part of the scenic drive between Hilo and Akaka Falls. There is a viewing point where you will likely see some cars pulled off to the side, and then there is a pretty well-paved trail going down hill. If you follow this trail,...More

A beautiful bay (no beach) at the coast near Hilo. You can leave the highwau 19 and follow the scenic road here. From the street a small way goes down to the bay.

We walked down to Onomea Bay off the Onomea Scenic Drive via the Onomea Trail, also known as the Donkey Trail. The trail follows the Onomea Creek and is only about a half mile in distance and has an elevation change of 150 feet so...More

We stumbled upon this great spot as part of a guided tour along the scenic byway from Hilo. We glimpsed the bay from above and asked to stop. After a short 300 meter walk to the black lava stone cove, we enjoyed the surging surf...More
