I know most reviews will say Haupuna is the best beach, but I love Mauna Kea beach. You have to get up and to the beach early (40 car limit at beach parking lot strictly enforced by hotel security) but that keeps the beach I...More

Mauna Kea is a beautiful crescent shaped beach. Because you have to be a guest of the hotel or get one of the few parking spots (we had to get there by 8am to get a spot in the public lot), its a lot less...More

Ok - no doubt, this beach is beautiful. The sand is great, the beach is a nice size. However a few things didn’t work for me as a solo brown girl traveler. I got there at 8:30am and the lot was full. So I decided...More

Really good snorkeling at low tide. The boogey boarding had a few good waves but wasn't spectacular; I'm not sure if that is because of the water/weather that day or something to do with the beach. There's plenty of shaded area close to the water....More

Definitely one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. Why one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Picture perfect Hotel and resort. World-class golf resort right next to the beach. Never over crowded. Hotel guests only.

Love this beach! So fun to spend a few hours at with the family. Sunny, sandy, bug waves for body surfing in the winter. The $5 parking was reasonable.

Clean beach, soft sand, clear water, & good waves for boarding. Clean wash area & potential rental place for umbrellas & boards (we did not rent anything). What else would you expect in a 600$/night Mauna Kea Resort? The guard will let you pass the...More

The silky white sand is exquisite. I was barefoot the entire time and didn’t step on any rocks. It’s still hurricane season so waves could get rough but the hotel keeps you informed and you can walk out for a long while. Water was warm...More

Ditto, as we've always gone to the Big Island in January or February. What you might want to do is go at a time that suits you and if you are turned away, ask the person at the security gate what is the best time to get... More
