A beautiful old church. The church is the center of activities, for the village. There are always people in the church. It is a Catholic church, but there is evidence of Maya religion, being practiced along side of the Catholic services.

St Francis of Assisi in Panajachel was our home for a week in late January. The three priests who live just next door are responsible for not only this parish but 30 more out in the outlying area. Only two of the priests drive, so...More

Like something you would see in a movie set. The only thing missing was Sergio Leoni music and Clint Eastwood wearing a shawl. Large and pretty empty square in front. Not busy at all, but then again, this is not the busiest area for tourists...More

Quite a surprise in a quiet square away from the gringo tack. It lies 10 minutes away from the lakeside, so maybe the builders knew something about the changing water levels that we don't. Well worth a visit.

You will see an old church that is still used today. If your lucky there will be a Saints day celebration going on. Not to difficult as they celebrate Saints almost every week. Beautiful Saint statues inside, some in regional costume.

I've been to mass here three times. The music is terrific and the people here in Panajachel are so welcoming and friendly. I am one of the only tourists in this place but I LOVE IT. There are beautiful historic statues of St. Francis and...More

After several visits to Panajachel, I finally got to go inside this church. It's simple, but very pretty. It's definitely worth taking a peek inside if it's open. The outside is also lovely, and there is a little plaza in front where you can sit....More

I stayed in a posada near this beautiful church. The plaza in front of the church is large and spacious. However, I have not seen much activity in the plaza. As beautiful as it is, the church and surrounding plaza is not very vibrant. The...More

Have a Rest on the stairs, watch the folks go by, have a look in. It is one of the places you really feel being far away from home.
