If you want a true cultural experience among Guatemalans, take a stroll down 6th Avenue. You can window shop, look for a place to have coffee or lunch, and get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life in the capital city. Try the Pan Am Hotel for lunch--wonderful food choices in a historic, stately hotel, with authentic Guatemalan touches.

As you finish your visit to Central Park, the Palace and the Cathedral start walking the Sexta Avenue. The first stop is Pasaje Rubio, a yellow 3 story building with shops on the first floor and apartments on the other floors. You have antique shops, jewelry, bookstore and clothing. Go to the Portalito, a great bar and have a Ojo Rojo, beer with tomato juice and spices, delicious. Do notice the beautiful tile floor. Keep on going on the Sexta and you have a pedestrian street with sculptures from various Guatemalan artists, trees, shops and people walking and others selling their goods on the street. Very picturesque. Restaurants. I would recommend San Martin for a light lunch in this beautiful renovated old house

It is the heart of the historical zone in Guatemala, sadly like every downtown is not sonsafe late night, for lunch or coffee you can have a lot of options, and a great variety of food.

Great scenic walk, the city is just beautiful. Stay away from the babylonian options of food and look for the ladies dressed in typical outfits with market trolleys selling the called "tostadas con frijoles", it's a crunchy tortilla chips with beans, some red sauce and cheese. You can get two of these for less than a dollar.

La Sexta is a peatonal street, filled up with cafes and shops, it can take you an hour or three, depending on how you're feeling. Very safe, on a sunny afternoon I recommend to get into Pasaje Rubio and have tea at Caravasar.
