Excellent tour. Our miner was very informative, personal and funny. We got to see a lot of the mine and the methods used for mining. We even got a geology class. My wife and I really enjoyed it.

This tour is somewhat interesting - we were expecting a lot more history and it was really about what is currently happening in the mine. We did really enjoy walking in an actual mine - quite interesting. We felt it was quite pricey ($40 per person) for a 1.5 hour tour.

A safe family adventure to explore a silver mine. Guides will not only show you the mine workings, but you will learn of the local history, and how the minerals were processed. Ask them to point out the cabin up on Aspen Mountain which is an access point into these mine workings.

This is an absolutely fantastic experience but I would not recommend it for young kids as the tour is a little long. Our guide is a veteran from working the mine in recent years and brought great history to life, but the storytelling got a little long at a few points and could be crisper in terms of getting in and through the mine more efficiently. It’s a very hands-on experience and you go into a couple of layers of the mine and learn a tremendous amount about what it was like in the region back in the 1800s. The whole experience taught me a lot that I never knew about the industry and the region. A must do!

It has been a while since I took the tour, but I still remember it as a highlight of my visit to Aspen. What an amazing experience to walk into an adit, climb (up or down) various levels, and come out somewhere else! The tour takes you into workings with beautiful crystals and creepy passages, while the guide describes the amazing chunks of silver extracted from the mountains around town. Definitely visit if you can!

This is why Aspen is Aspen. If you love history and authentic experiences you will love this tour. Jay is a real character and be sure to save some time to hear his stories.

This is an active mine, not a tourist trap at all. You need an appointment since they work the mines when they are not giving tours. They do charge $30 per person, but well worth the money and tips are accepted for the guide.

Much better than any other mine tour I've been on. Most feel touristy, commercial, led by someone who learned about the mine second hand. Definitely ask for Jay. He has worked in that mine for 42 years and continues to this day. He is an expert in removing undetonated explosives as well. He reminded me of my hard working blue collar grandfather in terms of stature and work ethic. We spent over 2 hours on the tour and talking with him after the other couple left. You get to go deep in the mine and hear from a real experienced minor who actually worked the mine and has crawled through many of the "swiss cheese like" holes you will see in the mountain. After learning about the huge voids in this mountain and the one under the Aspen ski slopes, I'm amazed a huge sink hasn't formed. We got to throw a few shovels worth of material into the mine car for some good photo ops and were given some raw orr as a souvenir.
