Pirates of the Caribbean should be ridden by everyone visiting Disneyland. Ride is now old but they periodically update it (latest changes is adding Captain Jack Skelly). Ride is fun for all ages- no jolts, no significant drops just a fun journey.

As someone else said this is a good ride for the middle of a hot day as it is indoors and cool and lasts for 10 minutes or so. On non-busy days the wait for the ride is small (we had a wait of under 10 minutes).

For smaller children there is a battle scene with guns going off that might bother them. The ride is also in the dark for the most part which I suppose might bother some.

Taking my kids to Disneyland after i had not been there myself for 17 years, and the first ride we had to go on was this one. Is it dated, yes. Who cares. It is a ride that spawned the movies and then the movies impacted the ride. As others mentioned, the women are no longer animatronically chased, the men are. And Captain Jack Sparrow is included now - not that the ride is really redone, but there are 3-4 animatronics where he shows up in the ride. There is still the great water drop at the beginning for people that have not been on before to get a bit of a surprise. Great ride when it is hot or when it is rainy (as you are inside). My son loved it as his first ride (and I knew there was so much more to show him). The line can get long so get to this one early or late in the day.

You travel through scenery in a boat all the while being pulled along on a track. There's animatronic characters and scenery. Dark and quite tranquil. Dont remember there being any drops but if there was it was quite small. There might be a splash or two but you're not getting soaked on this one. As always the effects are pretty cool.

In truth I could have done with the 20 minutes I spent on this back (5 minute queue, 15 minute ride)! Queue was 5 minutes throughout our late August midweek stay, but I understand it is often worse than that.

I had read some opinions that this is the best ride in the park. Sorry, I don't get it! I'm guessing that there is a lot of nostalgia baked into those opinions, but as a first time visitor to any Disney what I found was a ride I didn't really understand, that seemed to be without a storyline or at least had a storyline I didn't pick up on, with very old basic animatronics and Jack Sparrow randomly dropped in on a couple of points.

Not for me. You might get a few splashes on the two small drops.

We did this ride a long time ago, and sort of forgot about it as it didn't really catch our interest. Decided to do it this time around and the few little drops are fun, but the rest of the scenes really are just a lot of dead people. The ship gun battle is well done and if you eat at the Blue Bayou you can watch the people (and they can watch you) on this ride.

For the adults / teens this is okay, but for the kids it's a waste of time.

Pirates of the Caribbean is a bit special as it was the last attraction Walt Disney oversaw before his death. Opened in 1967, this ride resides in five of Disney’s parks and this one is the original. The attraction was planned as a walk-through wax museum, but after the success of the “It’s A Small World” ride, a similarly water-themed option was decided on and is what you see today.

EXPERIENCE:
The ride is all indoors and starts with a float through a bayou, complete with crickets and frog noises, quaint houses along the water, even a view of The Blue Bayou restaurant.

There are a few drops for excitement but nothing blood-curdling or anything.

You then enter a dark cavern where the catchy “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)” song is played. Numerous waterfalls and scenes of treasures and skeletons can be seen all around, almost like stepping into the movie, “The Goonies”.

A hologram of the pirate Black Beard is projected on a waterfall prior to the battle scene complete with a big pirate ship, plenty of animatronics, bombs and flashes. It’s very 70’s but still cool!

There is a big ramp towards the end of the ride but this one has no “happy ending” as it doesn’t lead to a drop – it simply brings you back up to the loading zone, LOL.

OVERALL:
It’s A Small World meets Jack Sparrow. Yes, it’s that slow of a ride.

Still fun after over 50 years of riding the ride. COVID means fewer riders on the boats. Politically correctness is humorous, girls are no longer being chased, food rather than sex, just minor changes, all to keep the attraction timely.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am about the new changes that were made on this ride. In the past, this was one of my favorite rides in the park. Now I doubt if I will ever go on this ride again. It insults my intelligence to think the re-designers of this ride would actually think I would believe that pirates would sit around and bid on eggs and chickens. Let's face the facts. Pirates just pillaged these items along with the art objects that are also being actioned off in this scene. It important to teach our youth about history, no matter how horrific, so that we don't repeat the mistakes. Not only that, but since the executives at Disney have sugar coated this era, I as a parent, have been robbed of all those wonderful teaching moments and discussions with my child. I suppose that in the future they will take out all violent scenes in this ride and have the pirates selling Girl Scout cookies instead and Jack Sparrow will be shown at an AA meeting. This is political correctness gone amuck!

Very fun ride, we loved sailing through the battle scene with all the smoke and cannons going off. They’ve added an animatronic Captain Jack, so Johnny Dep is a part of the ride now ;) We also saw the Captain Jack character actor outside the ride posing for pictures with folks :)
