We took a drive to check out the crater, with every intention of walking the short distance. However, it was sooooo windy that day that we opted to just view it from a distance. It was worth the drive through the Mojave Desert, stark but...More

Eventhough the hike to the crater is not hard, the climb is not easy. Of course for a beginner, for a moderate/hard/extreme it should be fine.

Unless you have plenty of time on your hands I'd forget the hike and view the crater from the viewing platform. It's straightforward until you get to the end where there's some tricky scrambling to get to the rim. And once there I was kinda...More

Nice place to take a break and stretch the legs. The walk from the parking lot to the crater is a leisurely 20 minute walk. Great views from atop the crater.

I love the 3 mile hike (roundtrip) into the crater. I also love that the parking lot is over a mile away as it gives you that sense that you've gone back in time when the world was so volcanic! Very cool!

This is a neat "Natural" landmark. We did not complete the hike but did walk to the observation tower. It's a great sight and also has nice clean restrooms.

Unfortunately, I was coming through this area in August and it was smokin' hot. I just took a few pictures and walked up to the viewing platform. Did I mention how unbelievably hot it was? It would be a beautiful hike in the fall or...More

I am writing this as a warning to other visitors as the people that went there are dead. August 14, a 58 year old woman and a 60 year old man died 100 yards from each other and half way to the crater on a...More
