We had a fun time just walking around identifying the different embassies and countries.
Also the neighborhood has a bunch of shops for food and shopping.

PROS
* Major famous commercial center
* Many restaurants and bars (especially the 24 hour Krispy Kreme Donut Shoppe)
* Many community and cultural celebrations
* Vibrant, lively and eclectic
* Always something happening- busy
* Big major thoroughfare traffic circle
* Underground passage of Connecticut Avenue lessens the congestion
CONS
* Busy and crowded and active
* The main traffic circle of 6 major streets is very confusing and dangerous for cars and drivers and also risky for pedestrians (but not as bad as L'Etoile of 12 streets surrounding the Arc de Triomphe in Paris)
* There are people who live there in the park or on the streets and then one needs to be wary
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... for the first time on this visit when I drove from Cleveland Park to Freedom Plaza (in order to get the kosher Krispy Kreme donuts). I subsequently walked the several kilometers to do the same purchase.
Both times, it was Sunday morning 8-9am and the place was relatively quiet. Those that slept on the street were there.
There was an active farmers' marker being set up on the side streets on both days.
I've passed through here innumerous times, but only now, viewing and reporting as a tourist.
ADVICES
* No real need to go out of your way to see it as a tourist attraction.
* Watch out for the traffic circle- both as a driver and a pedestrian
* Know that you will probably see people who live there

The circle itself is a circle with a surrounding park. The circle itself was under construction during my visit - May 2023.
The area is diverse depending which street you take! That’s what I find so interesting. Some (to the west) are quieter, chilled restaurants and more residential. Off the other streets it’s quite a hustle and bustle with lots of cafes and restaurants.

Great neighborhood. Lots of restaurants, bars, and places to stay in the area. It can get a little sketchy over the weekends in the actual circle, but we never felt unsafe at any point. Very close to the metro as well.

If you have only a short time to see Washington DC, Dupont Circle is a MUST SEE! Although the main restaurant area was busy when we were there (and boy, can you ever get all kinds of good food here), it wasn't throbbing and loud and pushy and we felt safe and entertained. It is a vibrant, thriving residential neighbourhood with lots of local activities as well. Of course, the best way to get there is by subway, and it's a short wonderful walk through a spectacular residential community to get to the food district, well worth doing. I was told the subway stop there is one of the deepest in the region, so as long as the escalator works, it's fine.

I walked through Dupont Circle in October 2021. There is a nice statue and fountain in the center of Dupont Circle which makes for a good photo opportunity. Unfortunately there are a lot of homeless people in Dupont Circle so you need to be aware of your surroundings, observant and walk quickly. I took a quick photo and then exited. Kramers Cafe and Bookstore and the Phillips Collection are near Dupont Circle which is where I went after taking a photo of the statue.

We walked over to this historical area but felt unsafe and left quickly. Personally I think just look from a distance.

The only reason I am reviewing this to let everyone know it little dirty with quit a few of homeless people. Tents all over were they sleep. (Yes I know I people may be harmless). It just really took away from the park

The focal point of this neighborhood is the DUPONT CIRCLE where there is a small circular Park. Main avenues surrounding this Circle are Connecticut Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue.
Located at this park is a Fountain with female statues around it. The fountain is not working during my visit. There were several homeless people occupying the benches of the park so I did not stay long.
There are shops, restaurants, embassies, office buildings, hotels, private homes in this neighborhood. The Dupont Circle Metro Station is an excellent way to go and visit this neighborhood.

Is this a good area for dogs?
Mike S
Washington DC, United States45 contributions
Dupont Circle itself is property of the National Park Service, and NPS rules apply. Dogs are allowed (and welcome), must be leashed, and owners must pick up after them. But note there are plenty of squirrels and rats for dogs to chase. The neighborhood is quite dog friendly, and there's a great dog park at New Hampshire and S Streets, three blocks from Dupont Circle.

Not sure about apartment but check the ones on 16 street and near by New Hampshire Ave. because some of them may include parking or have spaces available.

If you like Thai food,There are a few of them in the area, I suggest Bua Thai at the corner of 17 and P or Passara South of Dupont Circle (two block down Connecticut Ave). The Russian House is a good Russian one but quite expensive and you may need a reservation.
