As Israelis, we naturally seek out lost Jewish communities throughout our extensive travels through Europe and were thus pleasantly surprised to discover Mikulov to be one such prominent center of Jewish influence and learning, dating back to the mid-1500s, when the town was called Nikolsburg,...More

Once a thriving town on the Czech/Austrian border, there is one remaining Synagogue in what was once a town that was 50% Jewish. Fairly plain on the outside, the inside was beautifully restored and now is the Jewish Museum in the town. It is an...More

Interestingly enough, it is open on Shabbatm so you can make it even if you only have a weekend in Mikulov. Nicely renovated small synagogue, with an exhibition commemorating the rich Jewish past of the city.

Had a nice visit to the synagogue- handful of people there at the same time. Good restoration work. The exhibits could have used some labels in English. Don't expect the cashier to speak English either- he didn't! Important for Czechs, Austrians and other visitors to...More

You can find this synagogue near the castle and I really liked how it was restored. It´s really worth to visit this place.

This synagogue is positioned at the perfect angle to face Jerusalem, even though it does not line up with the street. Mikulov formerly Nikolsburg was the site of a great yeshiva, and world- famous scholars taught here. The surrounding streets are lined with historic buildings....More

In the reconstructed synagogy is interesting and exposition about jewish religion, tradition and costums. Unfortunately only in czech language, but it worth to visit, because Mikulov was a center of Moravian judes until second world war. Amazing is also near very big jewish cementary.

A moving historical site with some interesting pictures. The staff, however, were not sufficiently informed about the history of the Jewish inhabitants in Mikulov and Moravia. They would benefit by some training and history to ensure that the visitors to the Synagogue would learn more...More
