Spikeri basically refers to the warehouses dated back to the Soviet era that are located near the Central Market. They are just, err, warehouses? Nevertheless, some of them have been converted into restaurants and bars, therefore provides an additional option for visiting tourists to check...More
... And not much anything else. Only one cafe and Holocaust Museum, all other places seem to be closed or moved or changed (?) to offices. We were quite the only ones visiting the area on Tuesday midday.
I don't know how it looks few years ago because I saw Spikeri only once, but now it is a really good case in point of revitalization of the city. Hope so that it bring development of this part of Riga, definitely it deserved that.
Situated just next to the Central Market, Coach station and Rail station. It has changed a lot in the last few years. However, still need to be careful walking around there as thieves are operating all the time!
The old warehouse halls were completely abandoned and run down for years. Only recently, with the help of European funding t=have they undergone a restoration programme. Plenty of coffee shops and bars with the odd restaurant located here.
