As important as I feel it is to visit this memorial, I feel very uneasy seeing it referred to as an attraction. However, I do feel that you MUST find time to this memorial.

This is a very somber memorial. It is about a 20 minute bus ride from the center of Riga and then about a 7 minute walk to the memorial within the picturesque forest. Here around 35,000 Jews were shot into pits. To make it worthy...More

A place that has witnessed the depths to which humanity can sink, the formal memorial is both thought provoking and respectful. Walking beyond the memorial into the forest, within a few metres, you come across the death pits. Harrowing does not begin to describe this...More

It seems incongruous to give a Holocaust Memorial a 'five-star rating' or to call it an 'attraction'. It is of course none of those things but is rather one of the darkest places in human history, a place to now visit, reflect, remember and resolve,...More

We walked to the forest from the old town and it was a long, long walk. Definitely recommend taking the trolley bus both ways, we caught it back! But definitely worth a visit, a very poignant setting if you are interest in the history from...More

Bikernieki Forest was Latvia's largest mass murder site in WWII. The memorial's architect, Sergey Rizh, worked on the memorial's design for 15 years. The memorial is a fitting commemoration of the tragic events that occurred here. As you walk around it, you see the names...More

This was a quiet and well done memorial. It is a place of quiet beauty and its almost hard to imagine the horror that it witnessed. The names of the towns at the front of the memorial say where the victims came from. I visited...More

Very professionally completed memorial. It was breathtaking at first and it was also nice to be able to walk around in the silence of the forest surrounding the memorial.

This monument is a very moving tribute to the thousands of victims of Nazi terror in WW2 who were killed in this forest in WW2. We just handed our travel guide to our Taxi Driver and let him find it . This he did and...More

A trip to the forests outside Riga...everything seems so green and fresh, till you stumble upon this site, and walk within.... the tragedy and the somberness unfolds. Yet not a depressing site. It's a place that needs to be visited to understand Riga and the...More
