The museum is right behind the new Latvian/Riga National Library (pyramid like building). Inside there are pictures and explanations about railroad development. Unfortunately most of the explanations seemed to be in Latvian or somehow I missed English information. There is also working model train. The...More

Sadly we did not get to view the exhibit. We arrived to open gates, with a sign directing us to buy tickets. We were greeted by a rude woman who opened the door, simply said "10 am tomorrow", and slammed the door in our faces....More

Very disappointed .After reading the guide book we decided to make a visit it took us longer to walk there than it did to walk round. In my opinion it is not worth the effort, keep your money in your pocket

The museum was pretty small, but there's quite a bit to see. The indoors portion was quite limited, but I imagine that kids would have fun with the interactive part of the exhibition. The main attraction for us was the outdoor exhibition with all the...More

It won't take you too long to see it all, to be honest. But good if you are into trains. They had steps up to many of them (out-side exhibits) but were locked up!!

Outside and inside exhibits in an old train station. History of Latvia's railroad. Good for children (several families) or anyone interested in trains and / or industrial development. This is not a large museum. For EUR 0.60 a model train layout will be run for...More

This seems to be set up more for latvians than visitors. Some things have no English translation (not a complaint as I am in Latvian, not an English speaking country) so beware of this. There is a nice selection of locomotives and wagons but could...More

This is a bit out of the way, on the other side of the river just past the national library. It's a pleasant little museum, but nothing worth going out of your way - unless you are a complete trainspotter! The outdoor exhibits (engines and...More

Interesting historical building with the railway exhibition, interesting also for children, you can visit some coaches, see also external exhibition. I can highly recommend. It is good to take changes for chocolate (1 euro) and 60 cents for train models production.

The Railway History Museum in Riga is a Nice Place to visit. It is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the old town. One must not compare this museum with places like the NRM in York, since there is very little experience with things...More
