Viru Gates were built in the 14thC, and the towers still standing today are only a part of the original structure. Viru Gates are located in the eastern section of the town wall. The main tower of the gates was built in its initial form in 1345-1355. Today, Viru Gates are one of the entrances into the Old Town leading to numerous shops and restaurants in Viru Street.

A great entrance to the old city with shops and cafes on one side and numerous flower-sellers on the other making a most colourful entrance with the Gates in the background

These gates in the Town Wall for an iconic entrance into the city. They are photogenic but the view is often marred with delivery vans and so forth

Nice entrance to the town with quaint stores (except for the McDonalds) as you make your way into the town. The red-brown roofs of these towers and quite a few others built in similar styles help Tallinn standout and be identified in pictures. A flower...More

If your in town you can’t miss them as you walk around mesmerised by the beauty of old Tallinn. Located next to a beautiful flower market the gates of viru are the perfect border between old and new.

Gates are located right by the newer part of town. Really interesting to see the contrast of old and new. Very well preserved, worth seeing.
