Mateusz gave us an exhaustive, fascinating, and stimulating your. He was able to answer even my most esoteric questions. Undoubtedly the best tour I've ever taken anywhere. Be sure to ask for Mateusz.

Amazing trip to "Good old times". We had the luck to be only guests on this day and we still had our private tour for the regular price with a great guide. We got to see amazing 60's style communism bulïlding. The atmosphere is just stunning. You can see all leaders from soviet union visiting metal factory and bunkers. We had really original afternoon and kind guide even gave us tips of what to see in Nowa Huta city. I can recommend this unique and stylish adventure for everyone. It's good to see this not so long-forgotten history.

We spent 3.5 hours with our lovely guide being shown around and educated about what life was like in Poland during the communist regime in the late 1940s / early 1950s. We traveled in a Trebant car (twin cylinder two-stroke), which my wife also got to drive. We saw all the sights, had lunch in a canteen and were introduced to several beautifully flavoured Vodkas. Which is probably why I didn't bother driving the car!

Our guide on this tour was a historian and knew his subject extremely well and with a personal touch. We met near the Barbican and travelled as a small group to Nowy Huta a city within Krakow as the ideal Communist workers' place. As wellas looking at the detail of the architecture and how it was built we heard stories of how it became a centre of resistance to the regime in the later years. A particularly compelling story was of the Battle of the Cross and seeing the first church built in Nowy Huta. It helped me understand the strong position of the Church in Poland today. The day we went the weather was cold wet and windy, but it was well worth it. Our guide spoke freely and with feeling about every aspect of the era and with a sense of balance. Highly reccomended.

Booked tour with Auschwitz-tours.com. Excellent trip in an original mid 1980's Trabant car. That was an experience in itself :-)
Our guide arrived outside our hotel on time in an east German built Trabant, spoke perfect English, was knowledgeable and excellent throughout. As a long time resident of Krakow she gave a continuous commentary of the area of Nowa Huta and of living under communism from the late 1940's to early 1990's. We stopped at several places on the tour including a communism era cafe, 1970's flat, the steel works and a 1945 built T34 tank. The tour lasted well over the 4 hours. I definately recommend this communism tour and also Auschwitz-tours.com as I booked all my tours/transfers with them. I couldn't fault them to be honest.

I highly recommend a tour of Nowa Huta with the Nowa Huta Foundation.
Fascinating reminder of events in our lifetime. We learnt so much about life in Poland under Soviet occupation during the Cold War, through glasnost and perestroika and the Solidarity revolution.
Our guide had grown up in Nowa Huta and studied Russian history and culture. With him we explored the Soviet model town, one of two in the entire USSR built to service a huge steel works. We saw the headquarters of the steel works, massively prepared for a NATO invasion with cunningly disguised sniper posts on the roof and fully equipped nuclear fall-out bunker in the basement.
We visited the church that the population fought long and hard to be allowed to establish, which overlooked the street of serious Solidarity demonstrations and we finished with a drink at the workers’ cafeteria.
We were driven by our guide in a Polski Fiat of the 1950s, still going as well as ever.
The Nowa Huta Foundation is a non-government organisation established to preserve the fabric and the history of Nowa Huta. We booked our tour at short notice through a booking agency but it is possible to book direct with the foundation.

I booked a tour through the Nowa Huta Foundation. It was wonderful! Our guide lives there and grew up there. The stories were fascinating. We went into the underground bunker and had a great lunch of traditional polish food at a Soviet style restaurant. Highly recommend!!!!!

Having read several reviews on Communism Tour of Nowa Huta I noticed some people traveled by Tram , others by car or minibus are these used by the same company ?

We toured with the Nova Huta foundation, our guide driving us in a 1960's Polski Fiat, pick up and return to hotel our other agreed spot. Bookings direct with the foundation or through a booking agency. Good tour, knowledgeable guide.
At least one other organisation runs a similar tour by vehicle.
We visited several parts of Nowa Huta. I expect this would take longer if done by public transport, and it may not be feasible.
It is possible to take a tram from Krakow to Nowa Huta and self guide with a guide book but access to the steel works building and cold war bunker would have to be arranged with the foundation.

As a solo visitor can I take this tour ?

Yes! The tour is done in tiny cars that hold a maximum of 4 people, so a single person would be ideal :) Just sends them an email or call them. My sister and I booked it the night before we did the tour. It was so great!

Hi. My husband and I will be visiting in September 2020. The Communist Tour (is there just 1, or different versions?) sounds REALLY interesting. I would like to find out all about the tours...do I need to book in advance? We don't make many plans so we can stay as long or as short in a place as we want. THANK YOU

Hi..
Can you please tell me how to locate the tour? Should I just go to the Nowa Huta district by the tram and will find these car tours there? And what are the ticket prices? Thanks in advance for your help..
