About
Exhibition Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939–1945 is located in the former administrative building of Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory at 4 Lipowa Street. The exhibition is primarily a story about Kraków and its inhabitants, both Polish and Jewish, during World War Two. It is also a story about Nazi Germans – the occupiers who arrived here on 6 September 1939, brutally disrupting Kraków’s centuries-long history of Polish-Jewish relations. Due to high popularity of the museum, pre-booking is required.

- Andres W33 contributionsNot to miss - unforgettable exhibition about the Nazi occupation of Krakow and the Schindler factoryMost impressive, memorable and very visual tour through the time of occupation of Krakow - and the Schindler story. We had a great tour guide (Magda) who also shared very personal family stories. Not to miss when in Krakow!Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 19, 2023
- emma21098 contributionsThis is a museum about Poland in WW2 - NOT Oskar Schindler. This museum wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be about Oskar Schindler…it was about the Poland occupation in WW2. Very occasionally you’d see Schindler’s name and there’s one room dedicated to him but otherwise, very little. The exhibition is very informative and overall, well done BUT it could be better. It’s very tight in some rooms and if you’re an independent visitor then expect to have to push past rude groups of school kids that don’t leave a path clear for you to get through. There is a LOT of information, written in quite small writing a lot of the time and due to the tight spaces/big groups you can’t read everything. Some of the writing is also hard to read due to the design of the exhibit (especially in the main Schindler room). Pre-book so you can walk straight in otherwise you have to queue outside. If you’re looking for a comprehensive guide to Poland in WW2 then this is great, but if you’re hoping to find out about Schindler then just Google him like I had to when we finished.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023
- Jack CSheffield, United Kingdom7 contributionsMust see museumAn incredible museum that is filled to the brim with information. Well organised and structured, telling a narrative as you go through. My only critique would be that there are many narrow corridors, meaning that you can easily get stuck behind guided tours.Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 10, 2023
- Donna TCheltenham, United Kingdom42 contributionsWorth a visit - book aheadWe booked tickets through our hotel when we were in Krakow. I'm glad we did because when we arrived it was absolute chaos - there was a lengthy queue outside and people were bustling in/out of the doors and guides were trying to gather their groups. We were waiting outside for a good while still, even though we were on a guided group. Getting in was again a faff, they're just quite unorganised with tickets/cloakroom/security. Once you're in, you're fine! Loads and loads of WW2 / Occupation of Poland info and detail. Not loads on Schindler, so bear that in mind. Our tour guide was 10/10 - I think her name was Martina, with Krakow Direct.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 28, 2023

Not like our cold damp winters, but dry & crisp. I only went back because my friend hadn't been & wanted to go to Auchwitz & the Salt Mines, which in my opinion Everyone should see these things. Very sobering to read all the facts and figures about life in Poland during WW2. Not a lot about the actual factory and its work which we expected but still a good visit. Vry cheap compared some British attractions.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 16, 2023
- LemmieoutNewry, United Kingdom19 contributionsEnjoyable, but a bit claustrophobicWe booked our tickets in advance, which I definitely would advise. When we arrived, the queue was so long, but thank God, we skipped straight to the front to join our English tour guide. Katie was the tour guide, and she was just amazing. She was full of knowledge and personality, she really made the tour so much more enjoyable. My only issue was that there seemed to be so many people in such a small space, it actually felt quite claustrophobic at times. Also, I found there was very little really about Schindler himself.... Having said that, it was a very memorable experience and well worth a visit.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 17, 2023
- Best Kraków WalksKrakow, Poland13 contributionsGreat history museum in KrakowThis museum is truly a must-see place in Krakow. Here are some tips before a visit: 1. The permanent exhibition is called "Krakow under the German occupation 1939-1945". It tells the comprehensive story of our city during the dark war times. It means that the museum is NOT a biographical museum of Oskar Schindler. Some rooms are dedicated to him and his amazing story but the main storyline is more general about Krakow and its residents (Poles, Jews, Germans) during the 2WW. 2. It is located in the original administrative building of the Factory. So don't expect a visit in the original production halls which serve as the Contemporary Art Musuem (also a great place to see while you're in this neighbourhood!) 3. To avoid long lines and to have much better understanding of a really complicated history of war-time Krakow is is highly recommended to join a guided tour.Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten January 4, 2024
- SW3171United Kingdom41 contributionsWorth a visitIt was very busy and the staff member who scanned our tickets was rude but I wasn't going to let that put us off. It was a very interesting place to visit and showed the time-line of Krakow during WWII. I would reccommend a visit as it is full of history and gives a real historical insight. It is more about the history of Krackow than Schindler himself but still very good.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 5, 2024
- Doma27Matlock, United Kingdom204 contributionsBrilliant museum with wonderful guideBrilliant museum with wonderful guide. There is a lot of material here so it was great to have a guide to pace us and show us through all the many floors and exhibits at a speed that allowed us to see everything within 90 to 120 minutes rather than get overly absorbed in one room at the expense of others. She was knowledgeable and empathetic without being at all preachy just quietly laying out facts then letting us form our own opinions. Really impressive and wonderful experience.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 8, 2024

Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Krakow. Walking takes about 25 mins from the old town or the city tours drop off there too. If you want a guided tour I would definitely advise booking beforehand otherwise you can just pay and walk the exhibition yourselves. Very interesting museum.

This is a large museum charged at a low entry fee. The museum provides the history of the Nazi occupation of the city. The displays are imaginatively done with good use of sound and texture.
A worthwhile visit if you are interested in the topic. Note that there is very little on Schindler himself.

The first day we arrived and was put in the Q and waited over an hour with a sign placed behind us to say that tickets had sold out and a lovely well spoken lass having to tell people that their journey had been wasted, we felt quite lucky till we got to the tills to be told there were no more tickets for the day unless we had pre booked our tickets or had a Krackow visitors pass so if visiting at busy times like we were New Years Eve please make alternative plans than just turning up unless like our next visit we arrived at 8.45 and gain admission. The idea of selling tickets like this is a good idea as it gets busy and it avoids overcrowding in the museum. Anyway to the point the factory is about how the lives were lived before war broke out and how the Ghetto was formed and the selection of Jews/ gypsies etc. There is a lot of reading on the information walls throughout the factory getting to the part of how Schindler’s factory was formed. We found the history and the overall layout throughout the museum excellent how it was all laid out and the information and photos and videos were superb. We feel we wished we had visited the museum first before Auschwitz, but that is our personal choice just soo glad we visited. There is no factory anymore just a few rooms that hold old artefacts that were salvaged after the factory was taken over and a part of machinery on the entrance and again lots to read throughout the rooms , but don’t let put you off visiting as it a must if visiting Krackow. I suggest in watching the film Schindler’s list before visiting and allow 2-3 hours to absorb all the information of the tour.

We took a tour with Walkative which lasts usually 90 mins. Museum is very interesting although topic is Kraków during German occupation. Very few things about the factory and Schindler. We were expecting more about the factory and what was going on here, together with seeing actual factory. Nevertheless, you can hear interesting things about the city, it’s people and events which took place between 1939 and 1945.
Minus in this tour was 90 mins time window. This is not enough and my suggestion to Walkative is to increase that to minimum 2 hours with the same price. On the tour we took it was only two of us and we went over 90 mins, but still there wasn’t much time to ask questions or to get into short discussions with the tour guide. Imagine if there were more than 2 people in the group.
I believe that for this price you should get at least 2 hours in the museum.

This museum was the biggest disappointment of Krakow stay. I became interested in visiting the factory after hearing about it and reading the Oskara Schindler story online. I was expecting to see preserved sections of the factory, displays of living conditions / working conditions / life at the factory, information on what Oskara did for the people of Krakow, explanations of how he mamaged to save over 1000 lives and exhibits which provide educational insight.
To my great disappointment the factory has been entirely modified and the museum display is primarily a series of narrow corridors containing random photos, artifacts, displays and documents of the war in Poland as A whole. I'm not trying to say these items and the information is of little importance but rather it is not related to the factory or Oskara schindler. There is a very tiny section of the museum which is some recreation of what schindlers office may have looked like and there is a glass cabinet full of pots and pans presumably made at the factory. Aside from this there is very little to do with the factory itself.
To review the exhibit as what it is (ignoring what I was expecting) I would say;
.large tour groups come through the narrow coridoors regularly, blocking displays and killing your experience by talking loudly in varied languages
.the museum does not flow well and the intentions are unclear
.There is alot of information but poorly presented, the majority of it is random printed paragraphs on the coridoor walls. It feels more like a noisy crowded library than a museum
.The artifact displays are placed randomly through these coridoors, many of them have descriptions but some completely lack supporting information
.The intention of some displays is completely unknown to me (random dinner tables with plastic food, pretend cell doors, random office equipment placed here and there etc) just seemed like a waste of space and time
I'm very interested in WW2 history but my advice is save yourself the time, money and frustration by simply doing some research online. The building and artifacts are of little or no significance due to the poor design and lack off fluidity.

I actually visited in October 2019, however due to travelling all over the world for the last 12 months, I am just in the process of writing all the reviews. We decided to take a guided tour of this museum which was fantastic! You could visit the museum without the tour as there’s plenty of information to read at your own pace however I felt we got a lot more information about the history and factory as a whole by choosing the guided tour and the facts were definitely brought to life more. Our tour guide, Lucy, was very knowledgeable and answered all the question the group had. The museum includes timed visits so we did have a wait a short while before entering but once inside, we could take as much time as we wanted with Lucy’s guidance. The museum is definitely worth a visit and I would thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour so I would recommend this 100%.

If you want to visit here best to book tickets in advance as they limit numbers entering and that includes prebooks. It’s more an exhibition of bits of artefacts and mainly excerpts from people’s letters. It does give a clearer picture of the separation of the Jewish people into the ghetto and is informative on how horrendously they were eventually treated in this place. Oscar Schindler has only a small part in this exhibition with not much info. It’s worth a visit from the point of view of actually physically being in a place of history. Not really suitable for young children.. too much reading.

This museum was by far the biggest disappointment of our amazing Krakow stay. As we know the story of Oskara Schindler, we were interested in visiting the factory. We were expecting to see preserved sections of the factory, displays of living conditions/working conditions/life at the factory, information on what Oskara did for the people of Krakow, explanations of how he managed to save over 1000 lives and exhibits which provide educational insight.
But no!
To our great disappointment, the factory has been entirely modified and the museum display is primarily a series of narrow corridors containing random photos, artefacts, displays and documents of the war in Poland as A whole.
For sure information of great value for the overall history of Poland and Krakow, but of very little importance but rather had little or no relation to the factory or Oskara Schindler. There is a very tiny section of the museum which is some recreation of what Schindlers office may have looked like and there is a glass cabinet full of pots and pans presumably made at the factory. Aside from this nothing.
To add on to our disappointment, we were met with rudeness from the museum tour guides who had at least 3 large tour groups come through the narrow corridors regularly, blocking displays and killing your experience by talking loudly in varied languages and on top of that yelling at us to leave as we were not part of this paid guided tour. Uhhh no, but we were, after all, paying customers trying to figure out how to navigate the museum and the exhibition.

We've all read the history books and see Schindler's List. But the tour of Oscar Schindler's original factory is a reminder to us all that the story of what happened here, can never be forgotten.
Yes there are continual queues, and yes - there are a lot of people and guided tours milling around, but the artefacts are very interesting and very well displayed. We would recommend this to adults especially, but perhaps for younger children then I doubt they'd enjoy it. Note that for those with a sensitive disposition, then some of the images displayed are harrowing to say the least. Unimaginable that this happened 80 years ago, the evil that men do - eh?

The title of the museum is a little misleading,it should be called the occupations of Krackow in ww2, there is very little in regards to Oscar Schindler although he is mentioned during the tour.Booking in advance is a must as it sells out very quickly, the guides can often be very hard to hear if at all as the group’s often get split up a little when entering narrow corridors and small rooms. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the experience owing to these factors.

Most definitely, get kids interested in learning about past and past mistakes ,its a wonderful starting point to learn about the persecution of the people of the Jewish faith

Does the museum have public/ visitor toilets?

Would the tickets need to be booked online in advance, or can they be bought on the day directly at Schindler's Factory museum? Looking at the website for some dates in a couple of week's time and there are only a couple of timeslots per day with only 1 or 2 tickets available. Would that mean it will not be possible to buy the tickets on the spot, or would that still be an option? Do I need to go there at a certain time to buy the tickets?
Written March 8, 2023
We bought our tickets online, but those who bought at the entrance didn't come in vain. We were told that in autumn, winter and early spring, there aren't many problems for visitors getting tickets.
However, we would rather be safe than sorry.
