The opening hours on the Internet do not correspond to reality. I went to Kazimierz specifically for this synagogue, but the guard wouldn't let me in. It was written on the Internet that the synagogue was supposed to be open for a few more hours, but the guard said that I was just twenty minutes before closing time there and it was not possible to go inside. Ruined Trip!...

This is the old synagogue, located in the center of the Jewish quarter in Krakow.
The synagogue also includes a museum inside.
Notice just how fortified this 15th century synagogue was built - as to have the maximum protection for its worshipers.

We found this synagogue while walking around the Jewish district, it’s closed at 2pm, last entry 13:30 on a Monday and we made it just in time. It was free entry and we spent around 40
Minutes inside. There is not much history on the occupation of Poland, more a history of the Jewish faith, and as complete novices to th subject it was really interesting.

I have never visited a synagogue before and was glad I went to this one . Takes you into Jewish culture and customs and religious practices. Very interesting for a non Jew. The building is old and beautiful. I would recommend this as part of a trip to Krakow if seeing aspects of Holocaust .

This 15th century building is very good point to start your tour around Kazimierz. The exibits show you the religious habits of the Jews very adequately (although maybe in a bit old-fashioned way, but it's good nonetheless) - sometimes there is an option of trying your way as Torah scriptor, which gives it all an interactive touch.
The place shows you just the fraction of richeness of Polish Jewish culture so sadly neglected by Germans back in the Nazi days, but also is a very hopeful sign of Jewish revival in Krakow, Poland and Europe in general. Maybe it will be back as a religious centre one day? Who knows, hopefully so :)

A 500 year old temple, so there is lots of history. I suggest the audio tour to get the full effect and enjoy the history if the tour.
If you take the audio tour, it is a little tricky. It starts across from the desk where you pay, just inside the main entrance to the left with some pictures on the wall. So, as soon as you get your headset, turn around and hit play. Then follow the voice ques, don't try to find the numbers (that will save you lots of time). It rivals the big city audio tours in quality not in organization haha.
Other then that, it was really interesting and educational.

Located on Ulica Szeroka which in my opinion is the most beautiful street in the Jewish Quarter ( Kazimierz ) is the Old Synagogue ( Stara Synagoga ) .
Constructed between 1407-1492 ,this synagogue is the oldest standing synagogue in Poland and home to a great museum dedicated to the Jewish faith, its most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Ulica Szeroka.

I love nothing better than walking around the fantastic Jewish Quarter ( Kazimierz District ) ,so much history ,I love to view the synagogues around this district ,one of the most historic is Old Synagogue .
This synagogue was constructed between 1407-1492 ,it is Poland's oldest standing synagogue ,it was renovated and expanded by famous Italian architect Mateo Gucci in 1570 ,it looks amazing but what I most enjoy about viewing this synagogue is about the fact it's still standing when you consider about the German Army occupation of Krakow during World War Two when all vestiges of the Jewish faith were more or less obliterated ,now a museum showcasing the history of the Jews in Poland ,it's a synagogue that most definitely well worth checking out if you're planning on visiting Krakow ,it's easy to locate along the most beautiful street in Krakow's Jewish Quarter namely Ulica Szeroka .

A visit to the Jewish Quarter ( Kazimierz ) and in particular Ulica Szeroka which is undoubtedly the most beautiful street in this district is always well worth a visit as it's packed with pubs, bars and restaurants and some of the most famous synagogues in Krakow and Old Synagogue is probably the most famous, it's certainly hard to miss.
Originally constructed between 1407 _ 1492 this is the oldest standing synagogue building in Poland, renovated and enlarged in 1570 by Italian architect Mateo Gucci ,this synagogue was looted and ransacked during WW2 by the German forces ,it was in fact used as a magazine store, after the war the synagogue was renovated between 1956 _ 1959 and now functions as a museum.
A stunning building that easily dominates Ulica Szeroka, there's so much history attached to this building ,it's a wonderful way to learn about the proud and tragic history of the Jewish population and their influence on Krakows growth as a city .
Easy to locate on Ulica Szeroka and most definitely well worth checking out.

This is a small museum based in the old synagogue. It is a museum mainly of historic Jewish life in Krakow and about Judaism. We spent about 45 minutes here and found some of the exhibits on display interesting.

Muzeum piękne, pełne historii, warte wydania oparu groszy za bilet. Obsługa rewelacyjna. Jedynie małym zgrzytem jest sklepik zawyżający znacznie ceny. Taniej jest w Sukiennicach.

There are no strict dress rules but common sense would dictate that respect must be shown. We wore just normal summer clothes although some other synagogues stipulate at their entrances any rules within their places of worship I.e. no shorts, flash photography etc. And these requests should always be respected and adhered to. It is a lovely place enjoy!

Qualcuno sa dirmi se la sinagoga sarà aperta il giorno di Pasqua? Someone can tell me if the synagogue will be open on Easter Sunday?
