A former seat of Czech rulers, the Old Royal Palace is a mix of many architectural styles, particularly Gothic and Renaissance.  The palace houses the Story of Prague exhibition, which uses castle models, films and artifacts to tell the history of Prague Castle.

The "Old Royal Palace" is "OLD". However, I wouldn't believe it to be a "ROYAL PALACE" when walking through the place. I do believe that only a small part of it is open to public, but then again, the place is pretty much stripped off its royal decor. So it's a rather empty, non-fasciating place. It is, however, a good... More

It's best to buy a circuit B ticket and have access to the palace, cathedral, basilica, golden lane and tower access. The ticket is 250CZK per person and 500CZK per family (is a good deal) It's basic, history is well written in the palace. Nothing one would expect it's a large hall, few rooms, some benches and tables to show... More

Consisting of one very large hall with incredibly detailed wooden arches to the ceiling, however we passed through here in about 10 mins whereas we spent 1 hour plus in St. Vitus's Cathedral next door. It puts the whole Palace footprint into context. One spoiler was the very large number of school trips with groups of 80+ in size. Access... More

The paintings are incredible also the big ball room is amaizing. You can imagine yourself in the middle of a ball with kings and queens, and afterwards beeing so "tired" you go and visit the bedroom

This was included in our combined ticket of several sites around Prague Castle. Made the mistake of coming here last as it was incredibly underwhelming! The main hall was completely empty and there were other small rooms but no explanation of what the items in the rooms were! There were large porcelain green containers (?) but again I have no... We went in the Old Royal Palace as part of the joint ticket for the Castle. I certainly would not describe it as being a Palace at all. It doesn't resemble a palace as it's just a room and an empty room at that. There are several other rooms including a throne room and one with coats of arms. There... More

As previous reviewers already has mentioned this place wasn't anything special. However, since you're in the area you can drop in and see it.

I visited the old royal palace recently and managed to get entry into the palace after paying a fee of 500 CZK. However, inside the palace empty walls awaited us. There were absolutely no legends to understand the history of the place. It is a shame one had to further rent out an audio guide to understand the history. Even... More

I think the main attraction at Prague Castle is St. Vitus Cathedral. If you buy ticket B, it will allow you into Old Royal Palace. Not all rooms are open, but you can spend 30 minutes or so, to see the grand hall, which is still used for inaugurations, and side rooms with paintings and murals. I mean how many... More

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighborhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
