Some travel days are for peace and shopping. Within steps of the Flora tram stop, which has so many flower stalls for cemetery decoration that I wonder if that was the source of its name, we found both. I love cemeteries. Prague's oldest and largest,...More

This is one huge cemetery. It hosts Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox religions. It’s interesting to see the different styles of headstones in fashion - simple wooden Orthodox ‘headstones’ to the black temple like headstones in the Jewish part. There is a area given over to...More

This is a functional graveyard and not a regular tourist place. While in Prague, I was staying at the Courtyard Marriot which is next door to the place. It is a peaceful spot - as one would expect any graveyard to be. What makes it...More

My husband and I always come to Olsany when we make our way to Prague. We are not tourists here but we also admire the serene quiet beauty displayed all around us. The artistic tombstones, the overgrown ivy. We come every year to light candles...More

Need to get away from the waves of tourists rushing over the Charles Bridge? Sick and tired of the lingering smell of trdelnik? Why not take in this beautiful graveyard? The overgrowth in some places really add to the atmosphere along with some of the...More

If you are staying at the Marriott Courtyard then take a stroll across the street (in daylight hours, of course) and take in a quiet walk among the tombstones, memorials and crypts. The age of the graves varies and the rows of crypts in various...More

When I travel, I sometimes visit cemeteries, many quite beautiful in scenic locations. Olsany cemetery in Prague is of the main road and not in the prettiest part of the city. But beyond it's walls, it is a huge park like property with tall trees...More
