Seen from a distance...I am here!

Interior with guided tour, tower views, so clean wc! It is a castle that could be seen from all around. A nice walk from parking, wonderful views, guided tours, a lot of reconstruction work already done and is still foreseen. The enthusiasm and dedication and love and pride re castle of the tour guide to be admired!! The visit is really strongly recommended! The photos unfortunately not enclosed due to their size (is said)

Special tour

We was on special tour with calligraphy cours. It was really great. We got interesting information about living in the castle and then tried to write with traditional pen and Indian ink. As the souvenire we made a text on handmade paper.

Castle with beautiful views of Šumava
Aug 2018 • Family
The castle is a partially restored ruin built in the 14th century. It is located about 1,5 km from the carpark. There is not a lot to see, apart from the Castle itself. You can visit the courtyard for free or take one of the three guided tours, one on life in middle ages with a visit to one of the towers, a second on building techniques with a visit to the other tower, and a third tour combining both. The second was recommended for kids, so we went on that. There were two projections depicting a fire and the building of the main building's roof. These were simple, but enjoyable. The view from the high tower was beautiful, in itself worth a visit to the castle.

There are a few guided tours in English each week, or you can just join a Czech guided tour and read along from a handout provided at the Ticket Office.

There is a small souvenir shop and a snack kiosk on the main courtyard - we enjoyed the meatloaf in a bun, hotdogs and local pancakes.

You can also climb up the nearby “Pustý Hrádek” (a deserted part of the castle wall) following a marked walking path.

Place with atmosphere
Jul 2018 • Family
When visiting a castle, you have to take a trip of 1,5 km by foot. However, it is not a steep walk. You can visit the courtyard for free or take one of the interesting tours inside the castle, led by the guide. The place also hosts workshops and concerts and has a refreshment (ice cream, beer, pancakes...) and a small shop with souvenirs. For the best views climb up to the Panský Hrádek (0,5 km following yellow signs) and taste blueberries and raspberries on the way :)

Nice Walk and Castle
Apr 2017 • Family
Our family really enjoyed the walk up to the castle and the castle itself. They offer tours in multiple languages. The trip makes for a nice afternoon in the mountains.

Take a hike, back into the 14th century!
May 2016 • Solo
I'm a bit of a history nut and I love the castles in the Czech Republic, Many are very well preserved. I really enjoy the Castles such as Hrad Kasperk that involve a hike instead of just driving up. My cousin and I visited on a side trip into the southern Bohemia region. Probably my favorite region of Czechia besides the mountains in Silesia near the border with Slovakia. Anyways, the Castle is about a mile or less walk from the parking area which has plenty of parking spots. The Trail is sometimes paved but always easy to manage. One Tip:The weather can change pretty quick in this region so I recommend bringing a light jacket or windbreaker even if it's warm and a small back pack in case it's cold and you want to lose that hoodie when you warm up during the hike. As this castle is not far from Prague and sits so close to the Sumava National Park it can get quite busy. We had a large field trip of little monsters who visited that day and they were all over the place. The Tour was informative and the guide very nice. For those who don't speak a Czech you can take the tour and read along from a handout provided at the Ticket Office. The tour is really worth it as its the only way to access the High Tower which provides great opportunities for panoramic viewings and photos. A small snack shack is available inside the main entrance. Hot Drinks, Soda pop and also Hot Dogs stuffed inside Rohlicky. The castle itself has a long history dating to the mid 14th century when Charles the 4th was really bring the Czechs a lot of prosperity and culture. It saw plenty of peaceful times and other times it proved a valuable stronghold to secure the region. if you are near the Sumava Forest or passing through Susice then its a great chance to get out of the car or off the train and stretch the legs and soak up the fine views. Maybe pack a picnic as well.

the place is beautiful, but the guided tour is poor
Sep 2016 • Family
The castle is OK, but its quite small. The guided tour divided in two separate circuits doesn't make sense, because there is very little to show and not so much to say. Unless it's a question of money, what it looks like. The installation is really poor, the pseudo-multi-medial show is a bad joke. Unfortunately our guide (Filip?) was showing off as a joker - very embarrassing.

+ beautiful castle in very nice location, grazing sheeps around the castle, affordable prices, beautiful view
