Started at 9am with a pickup from our friend Agus with Sumberdana Travel. It was an amazing day of story and dance at the Barong and Kris Dance, 2 temple visits, food, coffee and tea tasting and a final rice terrace visit.

This traditional Balinese dance is one of many traditional dances in Bali. It is much cheeper to buy the tickets once you are there. This is like a short story stage drama and I wish the dialogue would have been in English so that the audience could understand the story better. Loved the dancing costumes and the dance. If you are in Bali this is one of the things you should do while you are there. Worth it.

This Barong & Kris Dance is basically showcasing Balinese culture through a story using wind & percussion instruments. The play will most of the time be depicted in Bahasa Indonesia so don't expect much. But then again, once you arrive, the staff would hand out an information sheet containing the flow of the story so you'll still be able to have an idea about what's going on. Personally, I really wanted to witness their culture of storytelling so I strived to watch the entire performance for more than an hour. But it would be just as fine if you miss this performance.

Dance is very boring and music is horrible basically noise, didn’t see any bits of culture in all this, waste of time and money.

Our taxi driver took us here, as part of our day out with him. Clearly he gets commission for this, and no doubt other places! Colourful costumes but the performance was dreadful, even with an explanation sheet in English. The ‘music’ throughout was repetitive and boring, as were the ‘dancers’. The audience started to leave after 20 minutes, we lasted 5 more!! Far too long a performance and an hour of our lives, we will never get back!

So this was the attempt at exposing the kids to some Indonesian Culture.
We were led here at our Driver's recommendation, which we took at face value. The kids got an earful of exposure to a cultural dance and we were provided with an explanation of the dance so we could follow.
If I'm honest though, at 5 acts, hour in total, it was too long and even the best costumes and interest weren't enough to keep my interest levels from dropping. Definitely way too long for the kids whose attention span disappeared after the first act, let along the next four.
That all said, I can see the potential value and interest to some in a very commercial and touristy production type of way.
PS. No animals were harmed in the making of this production.

This dance show was well worth going to, so full of energy and a credit to all the characters. We loved the monkey!! whoever played that part, really has monkey antics down perfectly. Musicians were also good. Would recommend this show to everyone
