Great easy walk. We departed from pavilion but there are other good starting points.
Path was covered with some water at some places as it had recently rained/snowed. My daughter with hiking shoes had no problem. My son with sneakers ended up with wet feet.
This walk which we took from the Pavilion end of the lake, just off Highway 6, is somewhat undulating. We encountered flooding to "trouser cuff" level on part of the track, but it was notified by signposts well before that area of the track.
8km easy walk around the lake. Some steeper short slopes. Be aware that one side is swampy and that sections of the pathway is often covered in 30cm or more of water. You will need to travel inland and cross over nearby houses and farmland...More
I took the bus from Queenstown it was actually easier to find than I expected. A most enjoyable walk around the Lake a little noisy when near the road. Scenery was lovely. Some inclines to ponder and on my walk some flooded areas too so...More
Stunning lake and mountain views - well worth a visit to walk around the lake if you have time. Would be amazing in summer! We stopped on our way to Arrowtown and then went back for a long walk later. So lovely.
This is a walk along well marked paths that circle Lake Hayes. It is easily accessible from the Queenstown Arrowtown road with a big parking area at the Arrowtown end (which also has toilets and picnic tables), and smaller parking areas a couple of spots...More
