Beautiful view of Hastings and Napier and the sea on a clear day, a great feeling of being way up high, look down into Tukituki river.

you must go to Te Mata Peak if you travel Hawkes Bay! It is sooooooooo stunning to see the view from the top! it would be better to go on a day without too much wind anyway. We couldn't stand still up there due to the strong wind. We felt a shame because we didn't stay there for long. It is a popular tourist attraction and I must say I have seen the most people at the peak during my time in NZ! All car parks at any points there were full. It is your luck if you can find a place to park. Many people park the car in the bottom and then climb up. I think the walk would be beautiful although it might not be for beginners. We had some other places to go on that day so we drove to the top at once for the view. It should be more suitable for me because I might not walk easily with the wind. I am not the expert walker. I think it won't be a problem at all for most kiwis anyway. It seems to be easy for them. If you want to see entire view of Hawkes Bay, Remember to go to Te Mata Peak!

Hubby and I took the yellow route as it was a scorching day and we liked the idea of going through some trees ams bush as well as farmland. Great track, not to arduous tho there were a few steep bits. Well worth the effort.

Absolutely stunning view from the peak. We drove up, but next time I would consider walking some of the trails. Would go again and aim to be there at sunset.
