An expansive flat sandy beach. I wish I'd had the opportunity to have more swims there. Clear and clean.

Always a fantastic beach to visit for a quick dip, or a longer stay.
Safe swimming, as long as you stay on the main beach.

Beautiful beach with plenty of room for everyone. Paddle boarders, canoes and swimmers all able to enjoy this lovely piece of paradise. Accommodation and restaurants close by makes it a holiday wimmer.

We were lucky enough to have spent a couple of weeks with a base at Tahunanui with the beach a 5 min walk away. The beach itself is a long white sand beach, which was great to walk, plenty of space and the water looked fairly shallow. As part of the beach local area, there is a large theme park (which closed when we were there, but contained a large pool/slide complex and mini golf) and a roller slate rink, beach volleyball nets (these were getting well used) and a fair bit of parking around. Lots of access point to the beach through various formed and 'unofficial' tracks through the low dune area.

You can take your dog to the back beach (west side) which has a lagoon at low tide. Poo bags are available to use too! Water was super warm. You can kayak, paddle board etc from the east end of the beach.

Enjoyed our walk along the beach in the morning. However continually barking dog out on the spit spoilt what should have been a peaceful walk. Owners need to be more aware of the disturbance.

The beach is lovely and worth a visit for a walk and to see the beautiful sunset silhouettes. The only annoying thing is how busy it was - on a Friday afternoon around tea time it was full of teens hanging out. Good for them but overcrowded for us in our 30s haha. Still lovely and worth a trip.

We are planning a trip on the South Island early June and traveling by camper van. How are the sights and activities in this area early/mid June? We are a family of four, 2 adults and 2 children (10,8)

Hi , as its a predominately coastal country your trip will take you around some of the most amazing countryside but as much as it is beautiful, you might want to take a cardigan ... and a rain coat . Its winter after all !

Are there any horse riding companies that have horse rides on the beach?
