Auckland City is quiet during winter but it’s beautiful. There are only a few restaurants open during the evening and aren’t that many restaurants to choose from. Because people don’t go to NZ for it’s nightlife.

My partner and I did this on a beautiful Sunny Sunday Afternoon, wide walking paths so no worries passing others. Definitely gets the heart rate up but is very well worth it when you get to see the views from the top!

I walked from the centre of town along the riverbank to the start of the hill to The Centre of New Zealand. Did not see a car park nearer the hill. It is a pleasant walk from town taking about 40 minutes. It took a further 20 minutes to climb the hill to the centre. Great way to spend a couple of hours, enjoy.
