This must be one of the last of these heritage bridges left in use in New Zealand...now I have driven over it...giving way to a train!! And on the last visit in March cycled over it...magic!

It is a bit unnerving driving along a bridge that has a railway track running through the middle of it. We stuck the wheels to the left of the tracks this time through...I was with a local - Phew, thank goodness!

"Old" in NZ usually means moe than 100 years old, anything older qualifies as ancient history. It kind of typifies the West Coast, in that it is a really memorable part of the drive. Like a few others it will be bypassed and the little...More

Drive this while you still can and enjoy some historic efficiency. Only a bridge at the end of the day but an interesting relic.

Unusual bridge where for only a short while longer ( a new road bridge is under construction nearby) you have to use this one way bridge which also has a railway line running across it to get from Hokitika to Greymouth - knowing New Zealand's...More

Not often does a state highway share the road [bridge] with freight trains. In addition to looking out for trains, the bridge is one way. There is no safe clear line-of-site to check for oncoming vehicles, on the North side of the bridge the only...More

We had a terrifying experience while crossing the bridge when out of nowhere the train just appeared coming towards us. I honestly can't understand why there aren't traffic lights or barriers. If you are heading south, visibility is not good because the train appears out...More
