Absolutely brilliant. Family of non riders and we booked the family ride my youngest is nine so was walked on a lead. The young girls that accompanied us were super polite friendly and easy going. By far the most laid back place we have been.
My son fell in live with the sausage dog puppies and hasn't stopped talking about Oakley since.
Beautiful horses beautiful staff highly recommend

We are a family of 4 inexperienced riders (2 adults, 2 children). We all enjoyed the horseriding experience through the beautiful vineyards of Hunter valley. The instructions given to us were simple but we were able to get the hang of it fairly easily. However, we were not given a proper opportunity to take photos of the kids on the horses, which is disappointing for such a memorable experience. It would be good if Hunter valley horses worked out a way for photos to be taken before or after the ride either by the riders themselves or staff, whichever is easier.

What a great spot and such an easy smooth experience. During sign in our kids were fitted with helmets. We went into the paddock with pur horses. Names of the horses were given and explained one by one how to get on. Instructions were given on how to handle the horse. Our three kids loved the experience and our youngest whom was too young to ride by himself didn’t miss out he was led on a proper decent horse rather than a pony which was great for him. Totally recommend going here and we certainly will be back. Beautiful nature walk around the field bush and surrounding mountains. Horses looked very healthy well cared for and the team handled team professionally. No problems with afterwards touching any of the other horses of nearby paddocks and a family photo was offered at the end.

A friend and I booked in for a 1-hour trail ride. Communication prior to the day was good, we arrived on the day and had a younger lady take us for our ride.

Our 'Guide' appeared good with the horses, but her customer service was poor. She did not check that guests helmets were fitting properly and also did not wear a helmet herself. Our guide also did not introduce herself until I asked when mounting our horses ready for the ride. Instructions for the riding was very basic (pull reigns left/right to turn and pull back to stop). On our trail ride our guide ignoring us and another couple on the ride, instead spending most of her time looking at her phone. Interactions were very minimal, and any instructions given were offhand, without checking that the riders had heard/understood.

As a positive, the horses looked healthy and happy and were very quiet. I would say this could be good for beginners who have never ridden a horse before. We plodded along the trail with no opportunities for a change of pace, or opportunity to differentiate for different rider levels.

The price of the ride was comparable for other trail rides of this length of time.

Overall it was okay, but I would not recommend or return.

Disappointing experience from this place. They clearly are in it to take advantage of tourists. We paid over $100 a head for a disinterested guide to walk us around in single file so slowly for an hour. We booked a private session because we were told the more experienced riders could canter, but that was not the case.

I recently visited Hunter Valley Horses, and unfortunately, the experience left me deeply concerned about the well-being of the horses there. It was immediately apparent that the horses were not receiving the care they needed. Their hooves were incredibly overgrown—easily 10+ weeks without proper trimming—and the shoes were worn down to the point of being almost paper-thin. This kind of neglect is unacceptable and puts the horses at serious risk of injury.

The horses' coats were in poor condition, looking grubby and unkempt, with many suffering from noticeable rain scald. It was clear that they hadn’t been groomed properly in quite some time. What was even more distressing was seeing horses tacked up and left in pens all day without any forage or hay. Several horses were crowded into each pen, leading to an uncomfortable and stressful environment for them.

This level of neglect is concerning, and I cannot recommend Hunter Valley Horses based on what I witnessed. The health and care of the horses should be the top priority, and sadly, that didn’t seem to be the case here. I hope improvements are made for the sake of the animals.

Special shout-out to Macca and Cass for making this activity extremely fun and memorable. We had a wonderful time catching sunset with our dear friends (horses) alongside a scenic trail with hilarious and yet informative stories along the way. It was an evening well spent. Thanks again Macca and Cass.

My partner and I booked a private sunset ride for our (belated) anniversary weekend. Neither of us had ridden a horse before, but we both left wanting to ride more!
Watching the sunset over the vineyards by horseback was an unforgettable experience and we would definitely go again. Keeley was our riding instructor and she was so helpful, patient and lovely to ride with. Thank you for a great experience and some nice photos to remember it by!

What a fantastic day out. We had the full day wine tour with just us two couples in the carriage. It was such a great day, our drivers Lindsay and Lloyd (I think that's correct - it was last weekend in October) were sensational. Nice, easy going guys who chatted to us along the way. As originally a local, it was great to be back in the hometown and really enjoyed the whole day and experience. It adds something else to the day travelling by horse and carriage.

We can't wait to come back and do it again.

I took my kids (10 and 17 yrs) twice in a week here and they loved it! The horses are well behaved and the instructors very knowledgeable and patient - can’t recommend Liam enough. Beautiful surroundings as well for a gentle horse ride. It’s at walking pace so a good option for beginners
