We travelled today on a very windy and rainy day by the ferry service.....half way there I realised my mistake. We had to endure 1 hr of torture on a woeful day to travel by boat. When we got to the Isla nd I immediately...More
We flew from Oban to Mason bay landing on the beach at low tide. It was a short but spectacular flight across Stewart island. The views and the showers made for a special trip. The pilots competence and smooth landings were a delight. It was...More
On a good day, this couldn’t get any better! The quick 15-20min flight from Invercargill is beautiful and picturesque. You get great views of the bays around the island and the colour of the water is out of this world, so clean and clear. The...More
Great way to get from Invercargill to Stewart Island. Only takes about 20 min. Price only a bit more than the sea ferry, That one takes an hour and you have to get from Invercargill to Bluff first. Pilots on both flights great and the...More
We had 2 very good flights, despite the windy weather during the return. It was a bit bumpy but we felt safe.
The plane is small and that makes is almost cute. It is cosy to sit inside and the views are a nice extra!
We booked the flight and island tour online with no fuss at all and thought the cost was very good and not that much more than the ferry fare. The experience of flying over to Stewart Island on a little 12 seater plane was fantastic...More
Would recommend any visitor to Stewart Island fly rather than take the ferry. Not a huge difference in return trips & flying your there in 20mins and depart from Invercargill rather than on a boat from Bluff for 1hr. Staff were great & reassured everyone...More
We took the Option 3 tour. This involved flying to Stewart Island, a boat trip to Ulva Island, a bus tour and then the ferry back to Bluff with a shuttle to Invercargill. Everything was on time and worked really well with time to wonder...More

It would be best to check with the Stewart Island Flights. We caught the 1:30 flight back to Invercargill and could have taken the 4:30pm flight. This suggests you could fly to the island on the afternoon flight (1:30) and come back on the 4:30. The guy that picked us up from the plane at Stewart Island also did the tour, so I guess it could be arranged- no harm in asking. They may even do it that you have lunch first & then the tour.
