This statue is vey easy to find. It is in the middle of the Octagon. It is a nice statue and symbol of Scotland lineage of Dunedin.

While strolling around the Octagon we came across the statue of Robbie Burns. Good photo opportunity and a reminder of Dunedin’s Scottish roots. Even though Robbie never set foot in New Zealand.

We were in Dunedin on a cold and windy day and were in the Octagon for lunch, while there we saw the Robbie Burns statue, it is certainly worth a walk past.

Statue at the side of the Octagon town "square" Take a photo and circle the square. Part of the region's Scottish heritage. Nothing special.

Robbie is Dunedin's icon. He sits supreme in the Octagon no doubt thinking to himself ' Oh, wad some Pow'r the giftie gi'e us, To see oursels as ithers see us!'. Some current politicians should note well his words.

Interesting to learn the relation that Robert Burns has to the city, but this is just a statue of someone who never set foot in the country. Why not one of his Uncle that did so much for the city? If you are in the...More
