We expected to walk through this in 15 minutes, and for it to be 'OK'. We were wrong. This was a great visit. The garden is quite large, and a partnership with China saw real authenticity realized in design and materials. It is quite beautiful...More

Had the chance to spend a couple of hours here while we were in Dunedin on October. It was bloody cold but still a pleasant walk around. The gardens were designed & built by chinese labourers brought in from China (don't get onto THAT topic)...More

Visited the Dunedin Chinese garden which is celebrating its 10 year anniversary. Such a beautiful, tranquil place to spend time. It's the only truly authentic Chinese Scholars garden in the Southern Hemisphere. Everything was assembled in Shanghai where it has a sister garden, before being...More

I visited in September, so at the end of winter/early spring, and found the garden disappointing and it had the feeling of neglect, especially is some of the out of the way areas. Probably best in the summer

The garden is beautiful and peaceful and really is representative of a part of Dunedin's history. we enjoyed the beauty of the gardens but more importantly learnt about the early chinese community and their struggles and ultimate triumphs in early Dunedin. Very informative cultural experience.

We were advised that the gardens were built to celebrate Dunedin’s Chinese heritage and to commemorate its relationship with its sister city of Shanghai and that it is the only truly authentic Chinese Scholar’s Garden in the Southern Hemisphere. We were on a tight schedule...More

I enjoyed the garden but it was nothing different from other Chinese gardens that are around the world. The entrance fee was overpriced. You can get some food from the tea house as well.

Found the most interesting thing about the site was reading and learning about the Chinese settlers in New Zealand. I though the exhibit part was well laid out. The garden part, didn't really do much for me, and consequently I thought this was quite pricey...More

I would say Yes. You can get to most of it without going up more than a couple of steps and there are many places to sit and enjoy the garden.
