Walk around the area, the gardens and especially inside the house....really breathtaking. Just a short walk from the Doubletree Hotel in Christchurch.

We booked in advance and were given a great spot in the indoor dining area which is calm and gracious without pretence. Service was polite, quick, and charming. For lunch, we each had an absolutely melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly cooked rump steak with sizzling rosemary potatoes and...More

Mona Vale has a pleasant cafe offering a variety of lunch dishes. If you call in for morning coffee at 10 o'clock, you'll find that they've baked a fresh batch of scones. The sign outside the cafe says that it is open until 4:30, but...More

In many ways Mona Vale did well with us, a large group who went for high tea recently. The service and food presentation was good. The most disappointing (and one of the most important) aspect was the actual tea. We were served lovely sandwiches and...More

Mona Vale is somewhat away from the city centre of Christchurch. I visited this place while I was having stopover in Christchurch. It is not that far away from the airport. It is a good park to have a walk!

From privately own to the church own property, and finally before subdivided and demolish the homestead, with public outcry and fund raising this property bought by Christchurch City Council and became public park since. This Mona Vale is really beautiful, even after rain when all...More

We went there for morning tea but were disappointed when our fresh scones were not so fresh and had to be sent back to be warmed. Disappointing in such a beautiful setting. Would expect better from Mona Vale

Having previously being for two high teas in groups and seated in the main dining room, and ensuring I had booked two/three weeks earlier I was disappointed that our party of three was tucked in what I would call the car port of the dining...More

This is a restful setting by the Avon River with a wonderfully restored building formerly a private home, interesting trees and gardens and a café and restaurant

Really lovely spot but it is full of tourists so if you are a local then not so tranquil and is on the hop-on hop-off bus route. The homestead is open again for coffee etc but a bit pricey. The gardens are long and small...More
