Visited on Tuesday 22nd May. We came across the Avon River a few times as we walked around Christchurch CBD and Hagley Park. A small river but still worth stopping and having a look at from different spots.

The river was beautiful eventhough the lighting was flat for photography. We enjoyed the walks and visiting with the locals. any future trips will be about a month earlier and hope for better weather.

If I close my eyes, I can remember all those places around the river, from Bothanical Gardens to Mona Valley. All my precious memories and romantic moments in NZ.

Spend a couple of hours just lazing on the water, gently punting along while enjoying the beautiful scenery in this part of Christchurch. Its like stepping back a hundred years in time.

The river is very pretty and a nice backdrop to the parklands around the city. Now I don't want to sound critical because the Avon is really pretty, but it is very small and is more a creek than a river as it passes through...More

First time back since the quake and there has been a lot of change. A lot of building work to renew Christchurch. This stops you at points walking all the way beside the river. Once all the work is done this place/river will be amazing.

Back in the day, punting down the Avon was the prefect thing to do on a lovely sunny Canterbury day. And, it still is as Christchurch continues to reinvent itself into the 21st Century.

It’s lovely to walk along the Avon river. The water is beautiful and clear. Lots of ducks and we even saw an eel.

Lots of friendly ducks and a lovely place to stand and watch the world pass by. A little grubby at times. Beautiful trees and art lining the river.

A river which flows through the city. Nice to stroll along it. There are walkways around much of it.

Hey there, you can pretty much just pick any part of the river and take a nice walk along it, take a look on google maps! It runs right through the the city so in the city parking would need to be paid for, my favourite... More
