As I was biking the entire route, it was quite an uphill right from the Gates of Haast bridge, but after a km it eases out. There are waterfalls galore and many lookout points and short hikes along this road. Must see Fan Tail and...More
A UNESCO area where you are never out of sight of mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, streams or coastline. A photo op awaits at almost every turn. Allow a long day to drive between Franz Josef to Wanaka, with at least one night at each end. There...More
I think NZ is a beautiful country, especially the South Island is so pretty every where you look but the Haast Pass Drive takes the cake for the best road trip. Every turn seems to bring in beautiful vistas and every bit of the drive...More
The drive from Franz Joseph to Wanaka via Haast Pass was one of the most stunning drives we had during our tour of New Zealand. There were beautiful waterfalls through Haast Pass valley but the best part was when we reached the lakes. Wanaka lake...More
My wife and I stopped here on journey from Franz Josef glacier to Queenstown. The waterfall was beautiful, especially with light blue water underneath it. Well worth the effort to view. The falls are yet again just another of nature's wonders in the wonderful country...More

The walk is not very long, I did it in about 5 minutes as a fast walker. A stroll i think would only take 15 minutes. It's not paved but there is a defined track that you could bring a stroller on, however the swing bridges over to the pools might not be wide enough.
If you're comfortable leaving it at the bridges (which you'd probably have to anyway as right down by the water there are stairs and lots of rocks) then I'd suggest that, but you could take your time doing the walk and not get the little ones too tired.
