You can’t go wrong when the reward for the drive up is snow at the top and a view that seems to go on forever. A highlight of our trip. If you’re driving from Queenstown to Wanaka go this way. You won’t regret it.

I loved the drive, but it was a lot of hair pin turns and corners. If you are someone with weak heart, please avoid this route.

Don’t be phased by the hairpin bends, it only lasts 5mins before you know it’s over. It’s a very pleasant and easy drive between Wanaka and Queenstown. I can only imagine how magical the mountain views would be in winter.

The road is excellent with tarmac and easy driving compared with some of the roads we traveled along in New Zealand. The hairpin bends are not difficult if taken with care and the possible use of gear/engine breaking on an automatic car. The scenery is...More

Used this route on our way to Queenstown from Wanaka. Utterly breathtaking views. Be careful on the way down, especially if you're using a campervan or motorhome. Very near and steep ledge on the left side. Lots of 180deg turns. Ensure your brakes are ok....More

This is the best way from Queenstown to Wanaka. You go up a steep mountain road, hit some great viewpoints, then descend into a striking valley with the bonus of passing through the pretty village of Cardrona.
