We joined the Northern Explorer Train at Wellington for the trip to Auckland recently. It is a great way to see the beautiful green countryside of New Zealand. We were in Carriage A front facing seats with table and two seats opposite. We were lucky...More

A very scenic ride through the North Island of New Zealand. The train is well run and has a courteous staff. The train station in Auckland could be improved, it requires a shuttle service from the Auckland city center which is not convenient.

Instead of flying we booked the train trip on the Overlander from Wellington to Auckland. A lovely relaxing way to see the country. It’s not a quick trip but well worth it. The catering if great too. Highly recommended.More

Hi Jane W, Thanks for the great review! The train has been called the Northern Explorer since we relaunched the service as a tourist attraction with scenic carriages in 2012. So we are guessing you are familiar with the old long distance passenger service and...More

Chose to travel from Wellington to Auckland by train. Wasn’t bored once in 10 hours. Comfortable way of travel, with historic and geographic information given through headsets, so no one was forced to listen (but missed out on a lot if they didn’t!). The ride...More

Hi Siri R, Thanks for taking the time to leave such a splendid review. The map is actually triggered with the audio points at specific GPS locations and it not a live map! That's definitely something we will look at improving in time for your...More

Sorry for the delay, I really dont know. I had taken my own food, just purchased drinks. I would suggest that you contact the operator of the train directly, if no luck, take your own food.
