The buildings themselves are magnificent, and were once the seat of government, when Rotorua was the capital, not Wellington. However, there was a fairly recent earthquake (November 2016 I think) that has left the building being fully assessed for safety, and any movement related damage....More

Went by to find fencing up and signs stating Museum Closed. Apparently the building suffered some structural damage from an earthquake that occurred some distance away. The building is no longer accessible until this is fixed. It could be quite some time. Double check online...More

Was hoping it would be opened on this trip down but unfortunately not! No induction on the signage of when it will reopen either. The government gardens are gorgeous to take a walk through and easy walk to or from Poly Spa as well!

Another overpriced Rotorua "attraction". Nothing in there that's worth seeing for the $20 entrance fee.

While the museum itself is closed for earthquake strengthening, museum guides offer a free tour of the gardens surrounding the building. The tour was informative and interesting.

The building is closed due to structural issues to do with earthquakes. As a result there is a metal fence around which ruins any photos etc but I completed understand why it's there. Not really worth a visit

The outside of the building looked absolutely beautiful but unfortunately it is closed due to instability in case of an earthquake. No time indication for when it will reopen. :(
