The Blue Baths is a beautiful heritage listed Bathhouse located in Government Gardens, Rotorua. An iconic feature of the city, the art deco Blue Baths daringly offered mixed sex bathing for the first time in a public facility in New Zealand, way back in 1931. Nowadays visitors can take a self guided gallery tour of the Museum or a dip in the historic geothermally heated pools. The building is also used as a venue for weddings and other special events. In the Lido Lounge (once the Adult Pool) seasons of original, homegrown theatre feature throughout the year. Summer 2106 see's The Choice (Jan 23 - Feb 26) directed by Jennifer Ward-Lealand, storm the stage. A cleverly scripted parody of the current cult of TV talent shows, The Choice showcases an outstanding line-up of kiwi talent. Än Auckland theatre critic says "Wickedly written, slickly performed and cleverly directed to parody the current talent show phenomenon that dominates our airwaves, The Choice is undoubtedly the funniest show I've seen for a long, long time. In fact I can't remember the last time we laughed so much until we wept. And yes they were definitely tears of joy watching the brilliant cast on stage at The Choice at the Blue Baths in Rotorua" Sharu Delilkan - Theatre Scenes.

Nothing fancy, but wow! Let's you feel like you are in Italy. Simple main bath with 2 small warmer side basins. Just stunning. Built in 1933! Also reminded me of some of the baths in Budapest. Not many people. We had the whole complex to...More

We have travelled as a family for a long time. We have travelled individually for work and pleasure. Sometimes - quite infrequently, we find something that is really special. The Blue Baths are really special. Hot chlorinated water in a 1930’s building building. Hot baths,...More

I don't know why this place isn't mentioned in more tourist information....it's an absolute gem. I felt as though I'd stumbled into a cross between the Roman Baths and and Art Deco experience....definitely another time zone full of atmosphere, and I loved it. Apart from...More

We arrived about an hour before closing and was able to enter. The small pools were hot but not so hot you can’t stay in them. The main pool is big enough for proper swimming. The changing rooms are being renovated so women had to...More

Enjoyed a business conference awards dinner at this unique and stunning venue. What a setting! Beautifully presented tables in the old pool with canopies overhead, and the outdoor pool lit up as a backdrop.

We dropped in here when we passed through Rotorua. The NZD 30.00 for a family was worth every cent. My kids loved switching between the three pools. It was beautiful and a real slice of history. We were able to use the showers to get...More

The Blue Baths are set in a cool old building, with some original details like the signage. (The dining room is set on a floor over a former bath.) It was pretty empty when we went, the last hour it was open in late December....More
