we went to the war exhibit - - always a great way to learn some history for young and old! Our young ones liked the interactions and our older teenagers enjoyed learning some history that they could us as part of their NCEA studies.

Was good to break up the day. The children 2&4 enjoyed the kids room and all the fun interactive things on display. Would have loved to visit Eurika, war and matariki exhibits without the kids so I could take my time and take it all...More

Medium size museum, and definitely cannot be compared with Te Papa Museum in size and collections, however it is quite good museum. There is a section of Maori displays, such as waka, wood carvings on the wall, King Maori photos, and then the section of...More

I hadn't been here for a while and this visit wasn't as good as some in the past. Part of the problem was having school groups there. This made it difficult to enjoy the displays. Some of the ways the displays were set up also...More

The museum had 5 floors of exhibits on everything from the Maori culture to a large section devoted to the area men who fought in Egypt, Gallipoli and Palestine during World War I. Best of all it was free.

A cool little museum to visit. Not overly large but it is definitely worth a visit. Carvings are unbelievable. So much delicate workmanship has gone into the these. Always something to see and read. Great for young and old. Definitely recommend.

Perfect for a morning - we saw the ANZAC display and floating architecture whimsy (not sure of the name) and meant to go back for the Archimedes exhibition but ran out of time. Very friendly staff, excellent little museum.

Thanks so much for your visit, Kristianna. We really appreciate your feedback. And the exhibition you are thinking of must be 'Future Islands'. Ngaa mihi, Jens.

Special exhibits of the work of Archimedes along with a free exhibit of world war one in tremedous detail and information about the Maori histry of the region made it a fascinating time. Their website has lots of info on what is showing.

Definitely worth a look; interesting and relatively interactive. Good location but parking can be difficult if it’s busy.
