Went here with 4 friends. The ferry over is also a great part of the experience, great view around Auckland. When we arrived we rented bikes nearby the harbour. They gave us bikes and helmets and a map of the Island. We rode our bikes...More
Highly recommend for tourists and locals. Great wineries and restaurants. If you love swimming make sure you take your swimming gear. Lovely little town to walk about. Easy to get around with public transportation.
We visited for the day and took a lovely food and wine tour. The island is just stunning, we would have loved to stay longer. It's a quick and easy ferry ride from Auckland. Waiheke oysters are insanely delicious, be sure to try them.
We made a day of it. Ferried to Waiheke from Auckland. Bought all day bus passes and started around the island. Jumped off at every winery that we saw and headed for the tasting room. Lots of stops and some really good wine before taking...More

Lunch again depends on what you like and what you want to spend - you can get mussels at the market for $20 or you can buy at one of the vineyard restaurants for around $40 per head to give you an idea of price.

We caught the ferry across which included a day pass on the bus but at information centre at the ward near the cafe not from the ferry booth where the transport staff work.
Enjoy your trip!
