We did this tour before Covid. We really enjoyed the tour which lasts about an hour booking is recommended but you can just walk up . The guide made it very interesting watching gold being poured into gold bar. There are exhibitions and you can design and make a gold plated medallion There is a shop and a tea room . You can easily walk fro the CBD or take the free CAT bus

We recently visited the Perth Mint and what an enlightening experience it was! Although there is a fee for the tour, it's absolutely worth every penny and a must to see past the gift shop. The tour itself was brilliantly structured, offering a comprehensive insight into the world of gold, from historical nuggets to the modern minting process.
One of the highlights was undoubtedly the massive gold coin – it's not every day you get to see such a spectacle! Equally captivating was the live gold pouring demonstration, where we witnessed the transformation of molten gold into a solid bar. This was both educational and mesmerizing, especially for the kids.
Speaking of the kids, mine, aged 11 and 12, were thoroughly engaged throughout the visit. The array of old coins and various gold nuggets piqued their curiosity and offered a hands-on history lesson. It’s always a pleasure to see them enjoying and learning at the same time.
Additionally, the staff at the Mint were not just knowledgeable, but also very hospitable. One of them recommended a pub just down the road for lunch, and it turned out to be a fantastic suggestion – great food in an air condition setting

Perth Mint can be visited only as a guided tour, which happens every hour. The closest was fully booked, so we waited for 1,5 hours, usong this time to check Mint shops with quarter-million diamond rings and coffee shop with overpriced coffee. But when the tour finally started, we realised that it was worth the wait. Great guide, knolegeable and friendly, coping very professionally with a huge crowd of tourists. Exposition of the museum is cleverly arranged; a chance to touch a huge chance of gold was thrilling. Worth every dollar spent.

This is a great experience for any visitors to the city. Gold was a key element in the development of the city and the story of the mint fits into this well. The tour is guided initially but once you have done the guided bit your wrist band allows you free movement. There are a range of exhibits and opportunities you can hold replica gold nuggets. See the largest coin in the world. Watch gold being poured, find out your worth in gold and have a medallion minted to your own design. Well worth the $19, leave plenty of time it takes longer than you expect.

Purchased a coin set, absolute nightmare. Slow to process quick to take my money.
Returned item for refund, was given the run around, made it difficult. Eventually requested refund, told I would be refunded in 5-7 days. That was 16 days ago. I have sent an email to ask where my refund is and have not even got a response.
The admin sales girl is rude, she drags her feet and makes the process difficult and because I discussed my poor experience with her colleague she's not bothered to refunded me.
How is this ok?

Easy to get to catching the free bus service. Really well conducted tour and the presenter was very entertaining. The one ton gold coin is iconic and a must see while the gold pour was an event to behold. Take as many pics or selfies as you want and affordable souvenir coins to purchase, you can get your name engraved on one for posterity. Make sure you have the Perth to do guide with you as a voucher for a free gift is included, suprise, suprise its a souvenir coin. We did it as a couple but take the kids too, they will enjoy it.

I booked the tour to see the gold pour and got an hour or so of entertainment with well-informed and good-humoured guides who made it fun. The chance to find out the value of my weight in gold was daunting - and some were too shy to find out. An affordable tour with WA history explained well. Staff were attentive and Covid safe. Good for all ages!

That was a wonderful tour and Chris seemed to know so much about the gold history. It was very complete and I do think it’s completely worth to shoe people how we burn it with machines and at how much degrees celsius. To conclude my review, I would sincerely recommend the museum to those who are visiting Perth.

Our second time to the Mint. Very informative and never boring. Always great insight into our history of gold. The gold pour is fantastic too. Mesaure your weight and how much you would be worth in gold dollars and they give you a coin at the start at check in to press later and keep.

This was a nice find. We are visiting from the US and had recently arrived by train from Sydney. One of the other guests on the train suggested we visit the mint and we are glad we did. The staff was amazing...I'm sorry I didn't get the lady's name, but when we stopped by 3 hours early to ask about a local tourist map she offered to move our tour up to the one departing in 15 minutes! We had also asked for some lunch recommendations, specifically brewpubs. She had to think about it a bit (and had other customers) but as we entered later for the tour she handed us two. notes with details on two places she recommended. The tour itself was very interesting. Oscar was our guide and was very knowledgeable, funny at times and seemed to enjoy his work. He definitely kept everyone's interest all the way through. The displays and gold pour were also very interesting; I came away feeling a little bit smarter about the gold rush and historical events in Australia's gold industry. Well done!

Hi all. Planning to visit The Perth Mint in mid December on a weekday morning. Would I be able to buy tickets on arrival? Or should I buy them online ahead of time? thanks

Get there early to book tour. We missed out on a the first one and had to fill in an hour before next booking. It's popular!

Hi,
For a single traveller in their 30s travelling by themself, is it worth going to visit Perth Mint. And is there much to do and see there and be interested about? Particularly if you don't have large amounts of money to spend on items there?
Written September 23, 2016
If you are interested in the inner workings of a Mint. There is an entry cost. For cheaper things to do, look up Perth Walking Tour or visit Claisebrooke Cove

Hi Perth mint, I notice in 'the blurb' on your website it mentions sovereign watches for sale but I couldn't find them on your shop tab? Do you still have them? Am I looking in the wrong spot?
If not, can you advise a good gift for an 80 yr old man! :)

Hi there, we sell coin watches in our shop and we do on our website (Although this service is temporarily unavailable due to a website upgrade. We are hoping the watches will be back on line by the end of the week). We don't stock sovereign watches, however, we do sell sovereign pendants and rings that can be made to order. Please call our shop on 9421 7376 if you require any further information. Kind regards

What's the difference between the Perth mint and the mint in Canberra?

Perth, Australia
Established as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint in 1899, The Perth Mint is the oldest operating Mint in Australia. Wholly-owned by the State Government of Western Australia since 1970, The Perth Mint is empowered to issue the Australian Precious Metals Coin Program as legal tender and also strikes many of Australia’s limited edition collector coins, highly sought-after throughout the world for their superb proof quality and exquisite numismatic treatments. As one of Western Australia’s leading tourist attractions, The Perth Mint also offers a unique combination of activities, exhibitions and demonstrations as part of its admission-based guided tour, enabling visitors to experience the astonishing allure of gold.
The Royal Mint in Canberra is the sole supplier of Australia’s circulating coinage. More detailed information can be found at the respective websites for both Mints.
