We came out at dusk to see the penguins. We saw penguins up close waking from their nests waiting for their mates to come back with dinner. It did get very crowded so we left, but really enjoyed our time. It was beautiful watching the...More

Why pay $$ to go all the way to Phillip Island when you can see penguins up close and free even in the middle of the day? Very nicely designed boardwalk and good information boards. Even saw a Rakali (who know that water rats could...More

Expensive little café at the end of the pier. Not really worth the price. It's a nice wander out along the length of the pier, but nothing of standout quality!

Great spot during summer to take some really nice shots of Port Philip Bay. Walk towards the back part of the pier and towards the evening watch the penguins come back to their nest. But please pay respect to the little wild animals. Dont try...More

A nice pier out into the bay with a native penguin area at the end, You'll need to visit at dusk if you want any chance of seeing a penguin which nests in the rocks.

This is where penguins and water rats come back to their nests at sunset. Their nests are within the stony outcrop at the pier. You could see them making their way in between the rocks. They hide in the cracks. The water is clean and...More

We put up at south yarra during our trip and decided to check out St Kilder Pier one night to try our luck to see the penguins. Apparently we were not disappointed. There were quite many sighted and best of all - it was free!...More

As it is v cold and windy, I don't advise you to be there too early. We went there past 7pm, we still managed to see quite many. Look out for the marshals, they are there to guide you and point out the penguins to you. Have... More

You certainly could hire a taxi from St Kilda to city, but cost could be between $20 - $30. Why not take a Tram and see a bit more of Melbourne at a lower cost and a leisurely pace?
