Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

This bookshop is filled to the ceiling with a diverse array of paperbacks. It's easy to spend an hour browsing this bokshop, with every genre represented, from current romance to crime fiction. The bookshop is in Bourke St, centrally located near Exhibition Street in central Melbourne. The paperback bookshop has been in business for over 50 years

Smallish bookshop which is jam packed with books, with some on shelves which you cannot reached. The genre is not as diverse as what I would look for in the bookshop but sometimes, all I neee is the smell of books.

We always call in to the Sun Bookshop when we are in Yarraville. The Sun Bookshop caters to its customers wishes, many of whom live in the area. They seem to like books which are a bit off the wall. The first time we went there was for the launch of Barry Hall's autobiography. Barry Hall was one of the more notorious footballers in the Australian Football League's recent history, but he wrote a good book. It's the quirky sort of book that Sun Books seem to specialise in. Since then, I've bought a number of good books from Sun Books. The only problem is parking tends to be a bit tight.

Seriously... this place is incredible. I wish all bookstores were like this one, but then again it wouldn't be as special.
The staff are always kind and knowledgeable, happy to have a chat about things they've read or certain authors. The range is deceptively large for such a small store, while still maintaining the quirkiness and authenticity that drives the atmosphere there.
If I have something specific in mind, I've always been able to find it. If I don't then I always end up finding something interesting, all while supporting an independent business that's been around for decades. Highly recommend to any booklover.

Rather than the overwhelming feeling that you get in a typical bookstore, The Paperback Bookstore is small in size but abundant in its collection. Some excellent finds, but some familiar titles that you'll also enjoy.

We chanced upon this bookshop on our way to dinner, and were charmed by its exterior. We needed to enter this bookshop and we were not disappointed.
It has a very good selection of books, and the prices are competitive with major bookstores as well.
The people running this bookstore are also warm and affable, ever so ready to recommend books to you depending on what piques your interest.

OMG I can't tell you how I felt when I saw this store... the store itself called to me … .whispered suggestively … drawing my attention. I was vaguely listening to my friend as she asked if I wanted to spend some time with her before dinner and I remember uttering... " I really need to go and look at that". She joined me and soon she too was enraptured looking at the books on offer.
It's small... people slip in and out of the store continuously looking for their own pleasure... rather like the pages of an old and loved book... this store is well used. There is almost a librarian type hush. I found amazing books quickly and as I know books are my weakness, I knew I shouldn't stay too long... lest my luggage weigh too much for me to carry as I left Melbourne a few days later. Still I left with two books --Australian authors … and a couple of greeting cards from their amazing range of Australian ones.
The gentleman behind the counter was momentarily taken aback when I asked if I could sleep in his store for a few days, but he laughed and said I might want to do it when there was less foot traffic.
For me, this is a hidden pleasure.... an old store filled with books hiding their contents until one has time to discover their delights.
