Good beer selection, pricey but great service

I’m from Newcastle where there are plenty of great beer venues and being a smaller city the prices are much less than tourist hotspots. The beer selection is great here, I found it slightly expensive in the context of my first statement (average $10/370ml) however the service was great and being in the middle of surfers I guess that’s to be expected. The focus is domestic brews which I am a big fan of, pretty safe range (lagers, pales and hazes) but enough to wet the whistle. We ordered a couple of kids meals and then ordered a medium well steak (not proud of my wife for enjoying burnt steak) and half a rack of ribs. Kids meals were fine, the kids ribs were stuck to the bone and not falling off but figured kids wouldn’t care anyway. When the steak arrived it was delicious but closer to medium rare than medium well. The ribs were horrible, same as the kids ribs. I am normally a little reserved however have been into smoking and bbq a lot lately so knew the ribs weren’t up to scratch. $35 for half a rack isn’t cheap so I sent them back. I ate some of the steak and the kids were half way through their meals so when asked I just said a refund would be my preference. The manager and wait staff were extremely professional and I have to say they really saved the experience and turned what could have been a very negative review into a very positive review. The manager offered a full refund, a round of drinks which I couldn’t refuse and went as far as offering a garlic bread as he knew I wasn’t eating now. I declined the garlic bread as I felt they had done more than enough to remedy the situation. Honestly - to the team, well done on your customer service. I was happy to walk away at this point with absolutely no hard feelings and just not leave a review at all. The manager came back and said the kitchen had redone the meal (a full rack mind you) I said no thanks as I had another 2 beers and wasn’t really hungry (I had initially declined a recook as kids were already eating). He insisted and said there was actually a miscommunication with the kitchen and to please take them as they would just be thrown out. I said I can’t say no to that and took the ribs home. I wasn’t particularly hungry but when I opened them up and tried them...wow. We finished the whole rack and they were night and day from the first serve. I don’t know what happened but it went from potentially the worst ribs I’ve had to some of the best ribs I’ve had... well done to the kitchen staff for making it right. TLDR - great service, if I could give 4.5/5 I would for the slightly underdone steak but overall a great night out with super friendly and professional staff.

Went here 12 months ago and had a great time.
Went again in 2024 and the increase in beers is just not worth supporting them any longer.
My good friend ordered a beer paddle and you no longer recieve a schooner after having a paddle plus a stein as gone up from 24 dollars to 35 dollars so I guess thanks for the memories as we will not be back

Had a lovely dinner here. Saturday 6pm. No booking. Got a table out the front.
Kids meals were great. Inc a drink and ice cream. Meals were large and tasty.
Ordered the soft tacos with a side of chips. It was so rediciliously huge. I only ate 2. Kids loved the ice cream with a huge ball of fairy floss. Service was good. We never had to flag someone to order food or a drink. They were right onto it.
We will be back.

Service was very pleasant and staff are earning their money.
Shown a table and menu and the place looks fresh.
A musician showed up somewhere near the end of a drink and she was fine enough.
Not a cheap beer, there are cheaper places to drink in Surfers with bigger beer for the money but I enjoyed the place.
Although we only came for a drink, maybe the staff should show a food menu just in case or for future reference. We are local enough. Doesn't hurt to plant a seed.
Cheers

Aside from it taking 20 minutes to even be attended to after being seated, all was good after that. Great beer selection, good music and steaks although not fancy, were enjoyable.

The House of Brews was recommended to us.....my parter was looking forward to trying the beers. There were several vacant tables at the front of the bar with no reserve displayed but we were not allowed to sit there. At the time we felt that it was due to not wanting to order food only to try the beers and watch the world go by. We chose to leave with out having a beer which could have lead to a food order!

You must try brewspresso martini!
Have had many espresso martini’s and this one definitely takes the cake, along with the awesome live music- I’m an absolute fan!

Their selection of cocktails was massive, unfortunately the experience was massively subpar.
We were sat down by a waitress at a high table immediately after coming in, 10mins go by and no one's come by to take our order so I went up to the bar to order, only to be told that someone will come to the table to take our order and to just sit down.

Another 10 mins later we waved a waitress over who was clearing the table next to us, who asked if we wanted some tapwater and then promptly tried to walk away midsentence of us actually trying to order a drink. We had to almost beg her to please take our order, it's only 1 cocktail.
10 mins later on the dot (there's a pattern here) our cocktail came over, which was a bit of a letdown. Fancy looking but bland tasting, with a lollypop on the side for some reason.

Later on we ordered a French 75, which also took 10mins on the dot to come over, and was basically a glass of champagne with a drop of gin and some sugar. Very disappointing. It also came with a tiny bucket of dry ice on the side, for no discernible reason. It added nothing and if anything, just made everything gimmicky and tacky.

It wasn't even busy, they were at barely 25% capacity when we came in and maybe 40% when we left.
I'm a bartender in Sydney, and used to be a waiter, myself, and I would be absolutely ashamed at this level of service and disappointing drinks that try to make up for it with gimmicks.

Would not recommend, will not come back.

I saw this place on TripAdvisor and had to check it out, the cocktails are our of this this world. Dry ice, candy floss, bubbles to name a few wonderful touches.

Cocktail bars should take note of the presentation.

We had the halloumi fries to start followed by chicken schnitzel and the chicken tacos. Both were delicious and massive portions.

Any one who is toying with the idea of visiting this place should go just for the cocktails, then stay for the food.

The waitresses were on point, fantastic experience.
