Green Arrow excellent walk….Worth starting at Green Arrow and continuing onto the Blue Arrow track to the botanical gardens…. Green Arrow is excellently maintained (but very steep in places) Blue Arrow less maintenance and fairly rough

The Green Arrow is a good, challenging walk right in the middle of Cairns.

I start from Bel Air Drive in Whitfield and it’s a walk of around 8km return from there (1.25 hrs to the end/1 hr back). The walk heads up Mt Whitfield gradually & the walk from Bel Air is harder than coming back which is mostly downhill. It’s also fairly lightly trafficked compared to the Blue, Yellow & Red arrows.

The end of the Green links up with the Blue arrow & a lot of hikers continue on and complete this as well. The Green Arrow takes you past the highest point on Mt Whitfield about 500m before it links with the Blue.

On my recent visit I came across a beautiful native goanna on the track heading back. He (she?) was scared at first but eventually chilled out, came down the tree and walked off into the forest. There are some nice views out over Cairns city on one side and out to Redlynch on the other. This is a good exercise walk that is recommended for it’s convenient location.

Very good walk with great views over Cairns and lower Redlynch Valley. Mix of open forest and rainforest. Took me about 2 hours return from Bel Air Drive carpark. Track would benefit from some weed maintenance- lots of Lantana, Guinea Grass and Novua Sedge in the first kilometer.

The Green Arrow is the longest of the Cairns Arrow walks and it's a cracker. Different terrain, mostly in the shade of the forest, it's a great trail within site of Cairns CBD

The Blue and Green trails have been there for 30+ years and we never tire of going for a walk or jog on the trails. Great views of Cairns and suburbs. Don't miss them if you're into a bit of fitness.

an excellent walk through the rainforest and hills along mount whitfield.... although there are a lot of hills to walk up so you need a certain level of fitness... especially if you leave from the Northern end.... up the red or yellow.... its up and up for the first 2 ks... and you need to either have 2 cars or get someone to drop you off and pick you up at either end.....but worth the effort!!!

The best views of Cairns can be found whilst on the Green Arrow Walk.

Today I walked to the summit, starting at the beginning of the red trail, via the blue and onto the green. I really enjoy all of the trail paths - the Red appears to be more of a jogging path and the yellow has a good lookout point for the airport, whilst the blue and green are for the more avid walkers. It took me a total of 1hr 10mins (I’m 25, average fitness) to reach the summit and naively I expected a great view once I got there (there isn’t one) but if you go past the summit and come down the green path there are a few openings where you can see some wonderful views of cairns. Ironically, the best view is actually at the start of the green trail. From here there is a nice green where you can lookout over either side of Mount Whitfield.

If you’re going to walk the Green Arrow Walk I would definitely recommend some walking boots and water as there can be some obstacles and it does get quite humid. Also make sure you have your transport sorted at the end as I didn’t and it left me about 6km out of my way... Uber saved me.

What more could you ask for..... stunning views across Cairns, beautiful rainforest trail and challenging terrain (lots of uphill). A must do if you want exercise, don't want to travel too far to get to it and love being immersed in nature. Oh, and not too far from cafes once you're finished!!

Extremely popular with the locals, the green arrow is great hard core workout as you can do the track as many times as you like, consecutively. There are many, many stairs involved so the flutes get a great workout. If however you are a visitor, I suggest that this track is attempted in the cool of the day as although the rainforest is beautiful, it is very humid, often not allowing breeze due to its foliage thickness. Take the track slowly so allow enough time before dark as the light fades in the rainforest at a much faster rate, once again due to the canopy foliage. I would allow an hour if you are not an exerciser. Please note that there are not many areas where you can stop and have a seat, so definitely not for the faint hearted.
