We didn't really know what we were looking for to begin with and had actually passed it before realizing. We kept looking for something substantial and when we couldn't find it, backtracked and came across the memorial. It may be historical but we were underwhelmed.

A great site overlooking the harbour a memorial to crew of the ship sunk by Japanese in WW2. The gun there was salvaged from the sunken ship.

There is a beautiful and and moving walk to the memorial, with a plaque telling the story of the history surrounding this memorial. The view over Darwin harbour from here are beautiful too. A must see and easy to walk to from thr C.B.D.

The story is well explained here with the USS Peary lost during a Japanese air raid in 1942. Very fitting that one of the guns was recovered and now stands in memorial pointing the way to the wreck. Respect to those who served and lost...More

Having read of USS Peary's involvement in the war effort i was keen to find the Memorial. A fitting place for the gun to be displayed.

This is a fascinating display of the city's history. Its kept clean, and has a scenic walk through the Bicentennial Garden to get there. Didn't get to take a picture while i was there because there were kids climbing on it..

This is a lovely tribute to the 91 brave men on the destroyer USS Peary that tragically lost their lives during the treacherous attack by the Japanese during the bombing of Darwin. Well worth a visit to pay respect and remember what happened.
